About Me

PLEASE SEND A PERSONAL MESSAGE/REQUEST! WHY DO YOU WANT TO STAY WITH ME? WHY WOULD WE HAVE A GOOD TIME TOGETHER? Copy/paste and impersonal requests will be ignored.

I'M NOT ON COUCHSURFING TO DATE! If you are, might I suggest tinder, okcupid, or fetlife if you're adventurous. Just wanting to avoid any uncomfortable situations right off the bat!

ABOUT ME

Originally from Vancouver, BC, Canada (eh!), though I haven't lived there in a while. I'm very much a wandering soul - I've lived in Europe most of my adult life (mostly Spain), and did a stint teaching English online to pay my way as a nomad for a few months in Latin America. Now I work for an edtech company in Beijing.

I recently moved to Beijing for work as I was feeling a bit stuck in Spain as an English Teacher and not seeing much room for advancement. I'm still figuring out my life here as I'm more of a "work to live" rather than a "live to work" type personality. I used to work online and work while travelling, and I hope to gain some skills and connections in China so that I can return to that freelance lifestyle someday!

I enjoy theatre, laughing over drinks, or simply strolling through the streets on a nice warm evening. I'm recently vegan, but don't really talk about it unless someone else brings it up (i.e. You can enjoy your steak without me rolling my eyes and judging). Cooking is a big passion of mine, especially with a glass of wine in hand and good company!

Outgoing, sarcastic/quirky sense of humour, I love meeting new people from different parts of the world. I'm a bit of a nomad myself, so I understand ze backpacker style of life and am more than willing to lend my home for the night.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is far too important to be taken seriously.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've couchsurfed in Spain and France as well as attended some couchsurfing socials in Quebec. I often have people over and have friends of friends who pop by, but I'm also starting to host more regularly now that I have my own apartment.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favourite authors: Khaled Housseini (Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns), Tina Fey (Bossypants), George Orwell (1984), Oscar Wilde (The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Importance of Being Earnest, Lady Windemere's Fan...), Moderna de Pueblo (Los capullos no regalan flores), Bill Watson (Calvin & Hobbes).
I love feminist literature and devour any book on the topic of prostitution. It fascinates me since I can't quite make up my mind around the ethics of sex work.

Favourite music: Changes depending on my mood, but some classic favourites are Pulp, Morrissey and the Smiths, The Weeknd, Metric, The Arctic Monkeys, Renan Luce, and some good ol' sing-a-long 80s/90s hits. I'm also very into musicals and can belt out an impressive array of Disney song impersonations.

Movies: I am the worst when it comes to films - If you ask me if I've seen it, there's a 99% chance I haven't... not that I don't enjoy them, but I'm super critical of movies and usually end up disappointed. However, some movies I love are: The Imposter (super creepy documentary, I've forced at least 3 people I know to sit down and watch it with me on different occasions), Jeux d'enfants, Her, and Monty Python's Life of Brian.

Shows: Broad City, Peep Show, Breaking Bad, Man Seeking Woman, How Not to Live Your Life, Schitt's Creek. Also a lover of British panel shows like "Would I Lie to You?", QI, etc.

I also spend an embarrassing amount of time watching cooking tutorials on Youtube.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Packing up and moving to Spain with barely any knowledge of the language and without knowing anybody.

The Camino francés - Camino de Santiago. I walked roughly 940km in 36 days!

I also make some MEAN sweet potato falafels.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm happy to cook some awesome veggie food for/with you, and I hope you can teach me a recipe from your country!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Sharing anecdotes about life, travels... and I can wiggle my nose like a rabbit!
I love to cook for my hosts and guests if time allows! Also I never come to a house empty handed if I can help it.
