About Me

Hey Surfers! I'm Alex, 29 years old, digital nomad living anywhere around the world. I was raised in Augsburg, Germany, now I'm basically chasing the sun.

I'm relaxed and easy going, spontaneous, simply looking forward to meeting new people and open my mind!

I am also really lucky to be blessed with a very positive mindset. It may sound odd, but the last two years during this pandemic, which were a real struggle to all of us, were an amazing time for me. I made some great decisions for myself, met beautiful people and learned even more to appreciate the many good things in this unique world. "Always look on the bright side" might sound somewhat worn out, but is probably something like my mantra.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I started Couchsurfing during my trip to Canada and the US in 2016 and it was definitely one of the most inspiring experiences in my life. I think it's a great idea to live with travellers, share each others stories, improve language skills and simply have a good time!
Meeting hosts from foreign countries always means learning about a new culture and is a chance to see behind the curtain of an unknown city. I made both experiences - staying among other travelers in hostels or meeting locals - and while both are cool in their own way, the memories that I keep are mostly with couchsurfers.
Last but not least, I can't deny it's simply a great opportunity to save money for accomodation.

Interests

I love to play and watch Football/Soccer, American Football is awesome as well! I love to watch it and also play Flag Football myself.
I stopped drinking alcohol a while ago. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy going out for a party - I'd even say I like it more than before. I just think we took it too far how alcohol and partying is connected. In the end, enjoying a night out depends on your attitude and I got used to having a positive one without drinking.
However I also enjoy to relax, sit and talk, watch a movie or play games. But all in all, I'm very spontaneous and up for anything. Always depends on my mood! Especially when traveling around, time is valuable, so I tend to be way more active than I usually am.
My biggest passion is obviously traveling. Sometimes I plan trips that I won't go on (yet) - simply for the joy of planning it and the imagination how it would be like. I usually wan't to see everything at the same time, from time to time I have to slow myself down a bit. :D

Music, Movies, and Books

I really love music, almost all kinds of. That doesn't mean that I like "the charts", it's rather the opposite. I enjoy trying new genres and discovering knew artists. For example in Spain I discovered that I love the sound of Reggaeton - something I never listened to before. The next genre will come for sure! Music is really important to me and definitely a part of my everyday life. You'll never see me leave the house without my earpods.
Usually I prefer movies with a sense and a good story, still sometimes (depending on my mood) "brainless entertainment" can be quite good too. I lately discovered that I really love many kinds of documentaries - entertainment and education at the same time, what a time to be alive!
I'm the kind of guy who "would like to be a guy that reads a lot", but what can I say, I'm simply not. Maybe I'm too lazy, or too impatient, or both. Probably both. I usually prefer listening to audio books though, especially before sleeping, which is really relaxing to me. Watch out, passionate Potterhead here!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Besides starting couchsurfing and solo traveling, I guess the most inspiring experience was walking the Camino de Santiago from St. Jean-Pied-de-Port in France to Santiago de Compostela and Finisterre. I wouldn't say it changed my whole life, but definitely some aspects and for sure gave me a better perspective of what's important in life and especially what's not.
And of course, leaving my flat, my family, my belongings and my home country behind is something that you don't do without picking up great experiences.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you some German if you wish, and of course I'd be happy to learn some basics from your language.
As a former "professional" player I'll happy to teach you some chess.
I would be happy to try all kinds of sports! Tennis, Squash, Padel, Roundnet (Spikeball), Badminton, (Kite-)surfing, Canyoning, Climbing, Skydiving, and many more - you'll need to slow me down, I want to do everything at the same time :D
