About Me
Geek and Nerd by nature. If it's blinks and has a battery I probably own and love it (and took it apart to see how it works).
In my day job i sit in front of the computer the whole time so after work to get out as often as possible. I like to explore new things, cities and hobbies.
When i'm happy i listen to Flogging Molly (irish punk folk), when i'm feeling blue to VNV Nation (dark electronic), when i am doing sports to Disturbed (alternative metal) and when i am working to classical or electronic chillout vocalless music.
I hate jogging but love cycling and hiking. Nothing beats the feeling of enjoying a breathtaking view after a steep ascent up a mountain.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
We (my girlfriend and me) wan't to learn more about other cultures. And the best way to do this is to get in contact with locals. We did some amazing AirBnB and homestays all over the world and lived with beautiful families - now we wanted to try couchsurfing. Following the motto: When you smile to the world, the world smiles back.
Interests
What can i say, I'm a geek :) i love tech, gaming and reading. I prefer books over movies - and if it is a good book i can't put it down until my eyes fall shut while reading or i'm finished with it. This does not mean i don't like movies, but my own imagination mostly surpasses the Hollywood cgi effects.
But i also enjoy music, dancing and travelling - getting outside of my comfort zone is always worth it in the end.

Music, Movies, and Books
My all time favorite and read countless times are the books "Rumo" and " The 13½ Lives of Captain Bluebear" by Walter Moers. They are modern fairytale stories for adults with lots of adventure, love and a fair share of violence. I also love the writing style of Moers, some pages consist only of very colorful descriptions with the most wanton imaginations i know.
@SciFi
1) The best thing in the last year was "The Expanse" series. I have read all five books within 2 week and loved every second of the tv series. It's grimm, it's dark and it's dirty... and provides one of the most epic solution to the Fermi paradox.
2) The "Culture" books by Bank all some of my all time favorites. Intelligent planet sized starships as main characters - what could possible be better?
3) The "Perry Rhodan" books. It is a German "pulp fiction" series which started in 1961 with an ongoing story line and a new book every single week!... and i have read most of them :)
@Fantasy
1) Discworld series by Pratchett. The dark humor and vivid imaginations are similiar to Walter Moers.
2) Lord of the Rings by Tolkien.
3) Shannara Chronicles by Brooks.
@Gaming
I played nearly every rpg out there. But the best are definitely the Fallout series for SciFi and the Witcher series for fantasy. For playing with friends: Borderlands
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Doing a sabbatical year to travel around the world with my girlfriend. With the goal to learn about other cultures we set the minimum time for each country to one month and above (don't counting stopovers). We have learned so far:
1) Vietnam people are so open minded and "religion mixing", that they even sacrifice a dog inside a Buddhist temple to some old Vietnamese spirit.
2) In Iceland you can hear the silence.
3) Nothing makes sense in Russia.
4) The best way to explore a new city is by (more or less aimless) wandering through the city following the locals. Just move three blocks away the the tourist center and everything changes.
5) Swimming with dolphins just makes you happy
