Overview
About Me
G'day everyone.
My name is Alex I'm a 28 year old Australian working, living and travelling in Europe. Since graduating uni in 2014 I’ve spent four out of the last five years over here, because plain and simple it’s more interesting then back home. I figured why not hang around Europe for a while and become immersed in the culture before inevitably being hit by reality?
Growing up sucks!
As of November I've been living in the Swiss Alps working in the property management game.
I consider myself a friendly, gregarious, confident, extroverted, out-going, hygienic, slightly pedantic and obsessive compulsive bloke that loves nothing more than a deep conversation over a drink or exploring and going on a new adventure.
What you see is what you get with me, I'm rather straightforward, up-front and naturally inquisitive. I'll ask questions when I'm unsure of something and I'm an open-minded so long as it does not involve violence or ignorance.
Sense of humour is an important trait for me, I can laugh at anything and everything however I tend to identify better with those who can enjoy the black, absurd and sarcastic type of humour.
I can be philosophical, I can be theoretical, I can be rational, I can be political..it is futile to in identify yourself as something static. I find the greatest gift in life is being able to communicate effectively with all walks of life and having the ability to be flexible, to acknowledge, to understand and to appreciate alternative beliefs and opinions. After all, it is who we are that is what makes us different and we require the courage to tolerate and express our ideals.
I could talk for days and I promise not to be just a random using your house. To me, it is important to embody the CS spirit, even if I am quite new to this.
It would be great just to hang out with someone in a foreign city for a day even if I choose to stay in hostels.
If I contact you, if you would like to 'verify' me yourself, add me on https://www.facebook.com/aleks.huber, or maybe even on skype: alexanderjustinhuber.
My page will be private but I'll accept you straight away!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I read a bunch of websites and all signs pointed to making a profile on here to become more familiar with local people, make new friends and of course have a place to stay or people to meet who are similar in nature and enjoy living life. I think the concept of this website is fucking rad and the type of people who want to host strangers in their homes are the kind of open-minded and open-hearted people I want to experience more in my life.
I plan on being around Europe for a long but indefinite period of time so meeting up with locals and discovering the types of things I normally wouldn't find as a tourist is seriously appealing for me. Especially with someone I connect with and enjoys doing the same things I do. Ideally, the plan is to get a job somewhere in Europe, so aside from looking at job websites, I figure meeting locals is a great option.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies - not a massive buff, but I enjoy comedies, romcoms, action, science fiction, documetaries, thrillers, pretty eclectic and open to anything new.
Some of my favourites include The Shawshank Redemption, Snatch, Trainspotting, This Is England, Crash, Fear and Loathing, Love Actually, A Clockwork Orange, Lost in Translation, Finding Forrester and of course, the Star Wars franchise.
Books - I love reading travel books and have been buried under a pile of literature. I will read novels, but I'm far more a non-fiction fanatic and will read anything from autobiographies, to encyclopaedias and philosophy texts.
A Short History on Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson is a personal favourite. Vladimir Nabokov is another favourite author.
Music - I left this last because my life generally revolves around music. No genre is applicable to me, from rap and hiphop, to jazz and adult contemporary, indie rock and electronica, soul to punk, I LOVE anything and everything (the only exception is country and western, too slow and daggy).
Some favourite artists include The Cure, MF Doom, Bonobo, Jurassic 5, Flume, Foster The People, The Rocket Summer, Placebo, Chet Faker, The Hives, The Pharcyde, FKJ, Masego, Hot Chip, Two Door Cinema Club, Fort Minor, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Maximo Park, Phoenix, The Cat Empire, Nicholas Jaar, Jan Blomqvist, Tame Impala, Gogol Bordello, Netsky, The Kooks, The Beatles, DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE, The Killers, Alt-J, The XX, Nas, Damian Marley, Eprom, Future Islands, Billy Joel, Paolo Nutini, Anberlin, Say Anything, Razorlight, The Strokes, Fleetwood Mac, Bobby Hebb, Tom Petty, Bill Withers, New Found Glory.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
- Crowdsurfing from the nosebleed section right to the back of the mosh during a Placebo concert sustaining many bruises and arse-grabs,
- Being a member in a punk-rock band and record a hip-hop record when I was 14 years old,
- Obtaining my first professional job in the legal sector,
-Stripping on a boat in Budapest and doing a nudie run because someone next to me mentioned it was a good idea ('twas the middle of December).
- Taking a break from my real life and focus on something so important to me, traveling!
Teach, Learn, Share
I would love to learn a little bit of language from each country I visit. I recently spent 3 months in France and learnt very basic French, although I know I'm still no good :P
If I'm staying at someone's place I want to learn what makes them tick, what gets them up in the morning and where that person wants to be in ten years.
I love people, their idiosyncracies, the positives, the negatives and their characteristics.
My one downfall is I often only see the good in people, which in turn makes me enjoy the company of most people....perhaps not the ideal trait to have as a lawyer, but hey that can be argued either way!
I want to learn your accent, your rituals, your music, your food, I want to learn about you and what your country stands for.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can teach you Australian slang, which you think might know but trust me you don't!
We can jam together, I love to sing and I play the piano.
and finally....being (one of) the best guests you could ever bloody ask for.
