I'm Alexander from Russia, geographer by education, used to work as a land surveyor. Spent about six years living in Thailand. Nowadays I work something like between a database engineer and a programmer in a visa & language school in Phuket, at the same time teaching Thai language lessons to Russian-spoken students both at my school and in a private manner.

Well, I'm not really a hitchhiking traveler and I'm not a tourist traveler either. I'm mostly into traveling around the country by local buses, trains, etc. That's how I went around Thailand, Laos, Malaysia. I prefer observing common local life rather than visiting touristic places even though one can find a lot of interesting things anywhere, so I wouldn't say I categorically avoid touristic places, too.

If it happens you stay in my room -- well, to prevent any future problems I take a picture of your passport, you take a picture of mine. Should sound fair, I guess.

Если вы останавливаетесь у меня, во избежание каких-либо проблем -- я фоткаю ваш паспорт, вы фоткаете мой. Не думаю, что для человека, которому нечего опасаться, это составит какое-то затруднение.
