About Me

Hello ! My name is Alex. I'm 25 years old, I'm Australian and I live in downtown Lyon where I work in a restaurant.

I speak French and Spanish fluently, having studied these two languages as majors in my Bachelor of Arts and I also speak a wee little bit of Italian, which I love learning. I love learning languages and getting to know other cultures. I love travel. I love seeing new things and meeting new people and doing new things and tasting new things.

I love learning in general. I love history and film and TV and books. I studied Creative Writing as part of my degree and while I'm yet to publish anything, I do like to talk about ideas and you may find from time to time that I can use my imagination in casual conversation. Perhaps we can engage in creative projects together !

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love meeting people and couchsurfing is really one of the best ways there is to be able to spend quality time with quality people from around the world.

I think that this platform naturally attracts open minded, adventurous and super interesting people with a lot to talk about.

I also really like the idea of sharing what you can that will greatly benefit others, ie providing a place to stay for free during travels, when they need it and in turn being helped out significantly when you need it.

If my couch is going unoccupied in a beautiful city then why not let someone take advantage of it ?

Music, Movies, and Books

The Matrix, Shantaram, Catch me if you can.

Btw these are not really my 'favourites', they're just the first that came to mind. I like soooo many books and movies and shows and it would really be impossible to find a favourite. When asked what my favourite is, however, I usually just say the first movie I like that comes to mind. I find that a more useful answer than 'I don't have a favourite' as it opens the discussion up to specific films, actors, directors, plot and style elements etc

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Lived in Mexico for a year as an exchange student, worked in the French Alps, arrived in Lyon with nothing and set myself up with an apartment and job.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have experience teaching English professionally. I can also teach beginners piano, singing and acting.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can help hosts with their French or Spanish or English, I can share experiences and thoughts. That is to say that we could have long and lovely conversations. I can also cook for them, my specialty is Mexican food :)
