About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To finish my third degree and travel as much as possible during and after, not to mention meeting as many people as I can by hosting them!

ABOUT ME

I am a super, super easy going person. I laugh a lot, I laugh at myself a lot, and I have a lot of fun. I'm always happy, and I'm always smiling. I love meeting people, and I get along really well with everyone. I've just ben certified as a senior biology teacher, and I am so restless head out again on another world trip! I've been incredibly lucky - my parents have taken me with them when they traveled to many places and then I spent a year abroad

I love to cook and to cook for people, I am a rock climbing instructor, I have a Canadian Private Pilots Licence, I am a lifeguard and first aid instructor, I study Jiu-Jitsu, I am a scuba diver, I am a sailor, I am a juggler and a unicycler, I am a violinist and a flautist (much, much better on the flute), I longboard, I can solve 3x3, 4x4 and 5x5 rubik's cubes, I am a skier, I have worked as a researcher in a genetics laboratory...

I love to hike and camp and explore. I have a touring bicycle and I am planning on cycling across Canada when I next have the time.

That's a very brief summary I think... a good one though.

A few years ago I flew to Europe with a Eurail pass for three months, then I spent four months in New Delhi and worked as a high school science teacher in Thailand for five months. As much as I am passionate about what I am studying now, I will miss the open road and the promise of new companions. I welcome travellers to stay with me to give them what I received.

PHILOSOPHY

Carpe Diem.

There is no better life than the one you make for yourself. I am incredibly privileged to be born in Canada, to be healthy and well fed, to be educated exposed to music and art and literature, to be introduced (and married) to science and research. The aches and pains and tumult of every day human life are to be accepted and moved past. I wake up every morning excited to be alive, loving my job, loving my friends and family. I always look forward to the next adventure, the next excitement - whether that be a simple spaghetti dinner with friends or climbing trip camping through the mountains. There are so many awful horrible depressing things one could manifest over in the world - but I manifest over the good and the wonderful. Life for me, is very good and I can't wait to share it with you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have travelled around the world, and I have had lots of opportunity to meet so many of you along the way! I have cooked for and with you, I have played music with you, I have hiked and camped with you, climb to the top of waterfalls and mountain ridges... I have gone out to see the night life meeting as many people as I can in far reaching parts of the world. I have to played my violin on the street with buskers and jammed in hostel bars over cheap beer. Now that I have come to a stable point in my life where I will be studying and living alone for the next couple years I want to invite as many travellers into my home as I can and give back the kindness I have been privileged to receive.

Interests

Hmm I think I may have put a lot of this in the "all about me" section. (to be fair, it did say ALL about me)

I love reading. I love science fiction and philosophy and so much science. Carl Sagan and Dawkins are of my favourites.

Music is a huge passion for me. I could spend every day of my life playing music with others. My ideal summer afternoon (one I have done a number of times) is meeting some friends down by the edge of the river, having a picnic with a box of wine and playing music as the sun sets over the water, continuing on long into the night.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a book fiend - I collect books, which hurts my wallet but feels soo good. I have so many they are stacked two rows deep in my Ikea shelving units - and an additional row all across the back of my desk. I've done a lot of lab work in the last few years, so I listen to a lot of audiobooks in the process. As for music, I enjoy all kinds. I was classically trained on the violin, and I studied the flute in school, I'm not that great a musician, but I have an immense amount of passion for playing - especially with others. I like all kinds of music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived in Thailand working as a high school science teacher, I rode a motorcycle through the Himalayas, I have seen an erupting volcano in Costa Rica, I dove with Whale Sharks off the coast of Belize, I have skied down the glaciers in British Columbia, and I have cruised the Caribbean Sea in a modest sloop.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to teach and to share all that I know. Juggling, knitting and playing the ukulele are some of the skills I pass on most often...

However, I seek out others not just to share myself, but primarily to learn from them - "to follow knowledge like a sinking star beyond the utmost bound of human thought." So I want you to show me your favourite recipe, teach me your favourite song, and tell me of your life!
