One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've hiked the Grand Canyon. I have drank Caipirinhas on top of Pão de Açucar, I've meditated in a Japanese temple, and I have been to some of the largest and coolest cities on Earth (Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, São Paulo, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Paris, Amsterdam!, Berlin), and with that I have learned that small towns have just as much to offer as a city with 18 million people. I motorcycled in the carribean, bribed border guards, and practiced voudou. Learned to surf on the black beaches of New Zealand, and worked for a summer in a downtown skyscraper in Chicago. I have driven across the US in an old sports car. Once I had to hitchhike from Spain to France because a volcano shut down all the air traffic in Europe and the all the French train drivers were on strike!
I've done things like boating up the Rio Negro (in the Brazilian Amazon) and several amazing trips to and around Dresden, Germany, easily the coolest city in Europe. Portugal is way up there too, though. Sipping Port Wine in Vila Nova de Gaia while watching the sun set over the Douro River, backdropped by the World Heritage city of Oporto is really. Freaking. Awesome.
I lived in Haiti for 13 months. France for 6. Brazil for 11. Paraguay for 3. Summer 2014, I spent six weeks traveling around Brazil for the World Cup. The coolest thing I have ever done in my life was spending three days hiking and camping in the Brazilian National Park called Chapada Diamantina. It's like the Grand Canyon, but with a rainforest at the bottom. Epic.
