About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"... to live deliberately, to live deep and suck all the marrow of life; to put to rout all that was not life; and not, when I had come to die, discover that I had not lived." - Henry David Thoreau

ABOUT ME

Originally from Adelaide in Australia, I made the Australian Pilgrimage to London to live, work, and travel for a while, and I'm still here five years later! I'm a people person. That is probably the single most defining part of me... I thrive on people, sharing experiences, stories and great times with them. My second greatest passion in life is knowledge. I love to know for knowing's sake, and almost no subject is safe from my endless curiosity! And I love to share knowledge just as much as I love to acquire it... I'm always happy to be asked about stuff!

PHILOSOPHY

Do nothing by halves, and everything with passion. A life half lived is a life not worth living.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm no longer able to host, but I'm told I give a great tour of the city - I'm a bit of a history geek and London has so much of it that I love to share. If you're looking to see London away from the tourist traps, drop me a line, I'm always happy to show people around!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I first arrived in London I was hosted for two weeks by a couchsurfer, and have stayed odd nights with other couchsurfers here - though that's more often a result of a big night out! I have also stayed with a couple of people who I have since converted to the CouchSurfing way.

I have also hosted a number people at my place - a fact that my housemates are gradually getting used to!

Interests

Jazz, swing dancing, exploring London, reading, socialising, meeting new people, getting outdoors as much as possible, good wine, great company, telling stories and doing things that will make great stories later on! I'm a bit of an artist, though I don't break out the paint-box anywhere near as much as I should. And I love to combine my love of history with my love of good English Ales by hunting out London's oldest and most fascinating pubs.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movie: Dead Poet's Society
"We don't read and write poetry because it's cute - we read and write poetry because we are members of the human race, and the human race is filled with passion. Medicine, law, business, engineering - all noble pursuits, and necessary to sustain life; but art, beauty, romance, love! These are what we stay alive FOR."

Books: Black on Black - Ana Briongos
"Its important to travel while you're young: you travel light and cheap, and your heart is like a sponge. The paths across the world make up a school which tempers the character and reinforces tolerance and solidarity. You learn to give and to take, to keep the doors open in the house of the spirit, and above all to share. You learn to enjoy small things, to value what you have, to be happy in times of scarcity and to celebrate abundance. You learn to listen, to watch, and to love."

Poetry: TS Eliot
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.

Poetry: Robert Frost
I shall be telling this with a sigh,
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less travelled by,
And that has made all the difference.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Parked a car under a petrol tanker at 80km/h, backwards. (50mph if you're not used to km's..). And I walked away without a scratch. Someone up there thought I still had something to offer the world!

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Australia, United Kingdom
