About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Have an adventure

ABOUT ME

"All about me"?! Surely you're kidding... I wouldn't know where to start (and I doubt anyone else would either..?)

I'm a wannabe bon vivant looking to have as much fun as I can while I'm still young enough to have it. I'll always take an adventure when it's offered! When I'm 60, I want to be able to sit in a comfy chair by the fire with a glass of fine wine in my hand and tell the grandkids about all the things I saw and did when I was their age. And I don't want them to yawn.

Still reading this eh? I guess that means you're looking for some more concrete details rather than the vague idealistic stuff that everyone on this site, by its nature, share. Ok, well, I'm an aspiring rocket scientist. I tend to plan and scheme things more than I should - I crave organisation. You might find me on a sheer mountainside in remote Africa one day, but you can be sure I'll have my calendar and todo list with me.

I'm pretty open minded but tend to work things over in a logical fashion. I aim to be as friendly as possible to any stranger who wants to be befriended (and even some that don't).

PHILOSOPHY

I had a necklace that states "Per Aspera Ad Astra", which is accurate, but more professional that personal.

I have two big aims in life. One is to make a usable contribution to humanity, which is why I am an engineer. The other is to maximize the happiness of me and the people around me in the long run.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had a few people over at my place in West Lafayette, but the best experiences I had was when I went to California and met some seriously interesting people! I then travelled the US for a longer period, meeting so many cool people. I hosted for a while when I eas living back in Europe. I also offered a couch while in Antarctica, but for some reason no one turned up?

Interests

Talking to new people, films (but not so much pop culture), food!, anything remotely technical (engineering and physics to medicine and water management), mainstream music and even somethings good music, politics (more philosophical than practical; no good comes of moaning about how bad things are now), thinking up (but rarely doing) overelaborate schemes, making the world a better place, running, diving, climbing, dancing...

Music, Movies, and Books

Last "great" book I read was Carl Sagan's Cosmos. The most fun book I read lately was The Martian...

Films, hard to say; but I'm becoming quite bitter about much of the stuff in the cinemas theses days. I love "proper" science pieces like Apollo 13 and Contact, but also enjoyed more diverse one (I watched "Babel" without the subtitles the other day which was surprisingly good!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw my Dad climb to the top of Kilimanjaro. I thought it was pretty amazing that I got there, but it's more remarkable that my old man did it...

Teach, Learn, Share

Ah ha! I'll not pass this opportunity to brag :) I'll tell you all you want to know about space and the Antarctic! Don't worry - I like to think I have some manner of opinions on most things (notable hole in my opinions when it comes to sports - sorry!) - but I often find myself learning more than I teach when I'm travelling!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories and cooking - always happy to offer a meal to hosts if you'd like!
