About Me

My name is Alexandr, but people call me Sasha (short for Alexandr). I am originally from Moldova, but have been in Houston for over 7 years now. I do research and development for data visualization, and love my job.
My housemates (two students from Moldova) and I have a small house in the very heart of the City. The neighborhood in which we live is called "Freedman's Village", and is the first free black people settlement in Texas, so a lot of history right here. Walking distance from Downtown, Midtown, and Buffalo Bayou. The place is spacious with a nice (even though restricted) view and great people around. If the time is right we can show you around and take you to some of the best food/wine/coffee/activity places in town. I can advice places to visit, and local gems which will be hard to find otherwise. Both me and my roommate are quite experienced backpackers who use every bit of free time to visit new places. We are very liberal and try to advocate equality in every aspect of people's lives. I am very activist, but don't talk about it when it's not the place or time for it, so don't worry, you won't hear it.
My philosophy is very simple. I send good vibes your way, if they return, we become friends, if not, I go my way and you go your way. No hard feelings ever.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Many times throughout my travel I have found myself in situations where great local people would help me not only by providing a couch, but also showing the city, overcoming the language barriers, commuting. I am generally very busy when not in vacation, so hosting someone on my couch is a convenient way for me to be thankful to all the people who helped me in the past. I also believe that meeting new people has a mutual benefit of expanding the world view and opening the minds to truths and experiences earlier unknown.

Interests

I am a rock climber, and often will be out of town climbing somewhere on weekends. Usually quite busy, but still trying to be athletically active. Sports has been a big part of my life ever since the first memory. When not doing sports, I will read some literature, or work on small fun IT projects. I am a big coffee/wine lover and cook some great meat (even though trying to eat less meat recently). Whenever presented a chance I will pack a light (or not so light) backpack and take off to some place not seen before. `
