About Me

Pardon the incredibly low response rate, I created my profile and then neglected it for a few months. My apologies to any messages and requests that didn't receive any responses.

In brief: Made in the Philippines, spent the first six years of my life in the UAE, grew up on the Texan border, and kept it weird in Austin for university (with a semester in Seoul snuck in there). Worked in Houston for a few years, and then moved to London to complete a Masters degree. After living in Phoenix, AZ for about a year and a half, I packed up my bags once again and moved to the Canary Islands to teach English. I consider myself a Texan girl.

Currently, I'm based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. I can't imagine a world without Mexican food, Korean bbq, and karaoke; I love yoga, trip-hop, zombie and foreign films (or both!), traveling and learning new languages and cultures.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love the idea of hanging with a local and getting to know the city and their culture through their perspective. I'm also not a fussy traveler, as I've enjoyed different accommodations throughout my travels, including tents, farms and one time, an air mattress in the open desert!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: currently obsessed with Ann Marr and Kacey Musgraves, Radiohead, Miguel, Frank Ocean, Beyonce, Rihanna, HER, Jessie Ware

Movies: pretty much anything by Wes Anderson, Baz Luhrmann, and Jean Pierre Jeunet. I also like animated/anime, foreign, and zombie films. Also a huge fan of Marvel, I openly cried during Black Panther and Endgame.

Books: Nayyirah Waheed's poetry, Prisoners of Geography, Like Water for Chocolate

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once rode a Barclay bike from West to East London without dying.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to practice English and Spanish (or even Korean and Filipino) with anyone who is willing to have a conversation about pretty much any topic. I also know how to juggle with one hand, if anyone is keen to try learning that as well. After living abroad for a while, I've gotten used to being asked about my culture, where I grew up and the United States, in general (including the Orange Man), and I am always open to a candid and friendly discussion.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share whatever I have learned in all my experiences, past or present, with work, studying, and just life in general, which I would also like to receive from whomever I spend time with. I also don't mind sharing my food, especially if it's really delicious and I want you to try it!
