About Me

Hey hey, I’m Alex! I’m an incredibly passionate person, it’s very rare that I don’t do something with my entire being. I’m passionate about being with people, with listening to them, with dancing with them and with hearing their stories. I love seeing how the human heart is the same everywhere you go. I’m passionate about Christ, I’m currently working in a Christian Hostel in Amsterdam telling people about how much God loves them and how He desires a relationship with them and that is the coolest thing ever. I’m passionate about writing and journalism and I’d like to eventually go back to journalism and do documentaries or write magazine stories or creative nonfiction or something. It’s the coolest job ever to investigate into what’s happening in the world. I’m passionate about being alive, the small things, the mood of a room, the spontaneity of life, French fries and the sights that actually take the breath from your lungs.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I find Couchsurfing provides the greatest surprises and it’s the most genuine way to travel. When I travel, I want to be deep into the place I’m exploring and of course it’s amazing to experience a place with the people who call it home.

Interests

Writing, music (especially live), laying on the beach, going off the beaten path, exploring without a destination, thrilling activities like exploring caves and jumping from high places.

Music, Movies, and Books

The lyrics are a little too dark for me now but Trilogy by the Weeknd is still one of my favorite sounds. I love how emotionally eliciting it is. I love hip hop but it’s hard to find hip hop that doesn’t have really crass lyrics (I used to love A$AP Rocky and Schoolboy Q but now it’s too much.) I also love electronic music and really anything that makes me want to dance. Some of my other favorites include Amanda Cook, Banks, Alt. J, Glass Animals, Sofi Tukker, Portishead, Hillsong United, and Lana Del Rey. But I can definitely appreciate all forms of music.
I love Moonrise Kingdom by Wes Anderson (and all other Wes Anderson films) but also indie films like American Beauty and musicals like Moulin Rouge. Movies that inspire me are my favorite or have a really beautiful perspective on life.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Having dinner with a Senegalese family of artists on the Isle de Goree. They didn’t have a lot but they were eager to share their food with me and took me in at a moment’s notice without really knowing me. I spent the night looking at their beautiful art and dancing with their little boy. I’ll never forget that night.

Teach, Learn, Share

Of course I can teach English but I also love practicing my French and learning other languages. I went to school for writing so I can always offer help with that. Also if anyone wanted to know more about Christianity, I love talking about it and how God changed my life.

What I Can Share with Hosts

An attentive, compassionate ear and whatever the moment requires of me. I can share my stellar music taste lol. I love having deep conversations and getting to the heart of the matter. I’m more concerned with what life is really about. I enjoy being there for people and being childish and letting loose!
