About Me

Hey! My name is Alexandra but my friends and family like to call me Al or Alex. I'm a funny, laid back, adventurous, postive, smart, and caring person who loves meeting new people and learning new things. I'm easily fascinated by anything new and exciting; my hosts often note how much I say "wow, that's amazing!" which we both agree is a good quality of mine. Halfway through college I realized I wasn't happy with what I was doing which led me to my decision to travel Europe after graduation. I took this time to learn, grow, and figure out what my true passions are in life - and how to make a living off of them!

I visited 10 countries over 9 months and have lived with many families thus far (through workaway.info) helping them with a few tasks in exchange for food and housing. For the last 2.5 years I’ve been working as a high school math teacher in Houston, TX.

Places I've Couchsurfed:
Den Burg, Texel, Netherlands
Brussels, Belgium
London, England
Liverpool, England
Cliff of Moher, Ireland
Paris, France
Granada, Spain
Barcelona, Spain

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm looking to stay with locals who can recommend places to visit, show me around and get drinks/food, and have intriguing conversations with. A good bed and maybe some breakfast is always nice, too! I'd be happy to cook for you and wash the dishes :)

I am trying to live and travel as inexpensively as possible so I can continue traveling for a long time. I would like to use Couchsurfing for my shorter and more last minute stays so I can minimize costs but also meet many interesting new people. If you would like me to send along my resume or any references from past employers or hosts, please let me know!

**I am not looking for an intimate relationship, nor would be okay with sleeping in the same bed as my host or in the same room (unless it's a studio apartment). So please do not inquire if this is your situation or intention.**

Interests

My true passion is cooking healthy food with organic, sustainable crops I planted and harvested myself. That's what really led me to want to travel Europe. I also love teaching, as I have been a tutor for 6 years. I love reading and constantly learning new things. And I enjoy anything that involves being outside as long as the sun is shining!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music genres I'm into include indie, alternative, EDM, rock, and trip-hop. Some of my favorite artists/bands are Banks, Bombay Bicycle Club, Dave Matthews Band, Foo Fighters, Empire of the Sun, Phoenix, Two Door Cinema Club, Coldplay, Twenty One Pilots, The Lumineers, Vance Joy, Death Cab, Atlas Genius, Savoir Adore, Flume, Phantogram, Mumford & Sons, Ferdinand Weber, Above and Beyond.

I'm not big into movies, but rom coms are always a pleaser (She's the Man, Bridesmaids, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, The Proposal) and action/thrillers such as The Town and Dark Knight. I do however love TV shows and am a Netflix fanatic. Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Grey's Anatomy, That 70s Show, How I Met Your Mother, Friends, Breaking Bad, American Horror Story, Desperate Housewives.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Packed up my life a week after graduating college and hopped on plane with a one way ticket to Europe.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have tutored in many levels of both math and economics and would like to become a math teacher in the future. I used to take French in high school and want to relearn it while I'm in Europe, as well as other languages. I love sharing recipes and cooking for others, as well as sharing stories and experiences that I can learn from.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am a very trustworthy, honest, respectful and easy going person. I am merely looking for a comfy place to sleep for a night or two as I continue my long-term travel through Europe.

I really would like to stay with locals who have been settled in for at least a year, know their way around, and can make recommendations of places for me to visit. And also go out on some occasions like getting drinks, coffee, lunch, or to festivals.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Croatia, Dominican Republic, England, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain

Countries I’ve Lived In
