About Me

I’m a Swiss native, avid hiker, reader and martial arts enthusiast (Hung Gar Kung Fu) with a degree in Cultural Anthropology and one in Philology.
After hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2017, my husband and I decided to quit our jobs and sell everything we own, except what we are able to carry on our backs. For an indefinite time, we are roaming the trails, discover the world, practice outdoor kung fu, do volunteer work and live a simpler but more adventurous life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In the past, we have both hosted and stayed at other people places - so far we've always used the more traditional way - asking around or being asked - and hence are Couchsurfing-newbies:-)
As we don't have a flat anymore, we're unable to host , but while on our hike around the world, every now and then we are in civilization and enjoy the luxury of a real bed and facilities.
What I enjoy most about staying at other peoples places is the companionship and friendship, to get a glimpse into someone's life and to experience a place not from a tourist's perspective but with local insight.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books:
Benedict Wells, Kant, Seneca, Carlos Ruiz Zafon, Astrid Lindgren - and yeah, I‘m a philologist and one if my favorite book is nonetheless a children’s book - and many more.

Movies:
Difficult question, as I'm a big movie enthusiast and going to the theatre is always a treat. To name a few: pretty much every Wes Anderson movie (Rushmore and Darjeeling Limited in particular), Boyhood, Team Marvel Universe, Mulan, Kuro Obi, Au revoir Taipei, Eastern movies etc.

Music:
Everything and anything, depending on my mood and the occasion. Browse through my Ipod and you'll know for yourself.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I recently passed my black belt exam in a traditional martial art and I qualified for the Kuoshu World Championships taking place July 2018 in the US:-)

Teach, Learn, Share

Always be curious, try to learn and experience as much as you can because what you know and what you are able to do will always belong to you and can’t be taken away!

What I Can Share with Hosts

A good sense of humor, curiosity and a lot of respect for the people I meet, stories from the trails, German/English/French skills and good conversations, Kung Fu (Shaolin Hung Gar), travel advice for Switzerland, and I can prepare a mean Risotto (my grandma‘s recipe)

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Austria, Brazil, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Macao, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Paraguay, Poland, Scotland, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey, United States, Wales
