About Me

I'm Alex from Chile!

I'm very passionate about learning and all kinds of education and knowledge, because I think it makes the world a better place. I studied biology and law at university in Chile.

I'm an environmentalist. I work in a global philanthropy that fights climate change. Specifically methane.

I also like to write about it online. You can check out my writing here: https://medium.com/@AlexandreSWadie

I used work as a legislative advisor in environmental issues for senator Isabel Allende, a famous chilean politician. Most people confuse her with her cousin, which has the same name and that is the famous writer. Isabel Allende is known for her long political career but is also known because she is the daughter to the deceased chilean president, Salvador Allende, who was victim to a terrible coup that Chile suffered in 1973 that gave origin to a 17 year old bloody dictatorship. I'll gladly tell you more about it if we meet!

I love reggae and trio-hop.

And I love to meditate. 🧘‍♂️ Tried zen meditation but I am open to other forms of it as well.

I also enjoy sports and acroyoga, and would love to meet people who are into acroyoga too. Also, I am very interested in martial arts.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm currently visiting Indianapolis for a convention related to my job.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hmmm... Did you know that Chile is famous because of it's earthquakes? Las big one was the 27th of Feb 2010. A few weeks before that, I created a Spanish wikipedia article about some important technicism about earthquakes: the moment magnitud scale. I did so just because I thought it was unacceptable that the article didn't exist in Spanish while existing other languages without any kind of translation. I just had the expectation of sharing knowledge with the world.

Little did I know that after the huge earthquake (which of course no one was expecting) the article became wildly popular, reaching thouthans and thouthands of people that wanted to know about this technical term used to measure earthquakes and compare them.

I was amazed how with just a little effort in sharing knowledge could reach thousands of people! I was genuinely excited that my volunteering in wikipedia had a positive impact on the world!
