Overview
About Me
Hey. My name is Alex, and I come from Ontario, Canada. I'm a recent grad of the architecture program at the University of Waterloo, and I'm currently working in Toronto before starting my masters at MIT in September, 2016.
On previous work terms, I have lived in Toronto, Nagoya (Japan), and New York in close quarters with a bunch of other roommates.
A few summers ago, I went backpacking across Panama, Colombia, and Costa Rica, working, studying, and volunteering along the way.
I've backpacked across Europe with a friend, and travelled with my family to a few places. I'm grateful for all of these wonderful experiences and I can't wait to have more.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I respect. I engage in conversation. I ask questions. I trust. I share what I can. I try to be responsible without missing out on all the fun.
One day I will live in a reasonable apartment in a reasonably accessible/interesting city with a reasonable amount of free time, at which point I can repay all of this lovely couchsurfing debt I have taken on.
Interests
Simple food, dark coffee/chocolate, and good conversation get me going.
Music - hopefully we can play together if you have instruments. maybe we will write top 40 hits but maybe we will just bang out some covers and call it a night. I play the guitar, piano, banjo, trumpet, etc. and am happy to teach.
Architecture - design and fabrication on a wide range of scales is my jam
Outdoors - rock climbing, hiking, biking, snowboarding, swimming, exploring, camping, etc.
Learning forever through books, encyclopedias, PDFs, conversations, youtube, lectures, talks, dreams, thoughts, songs...

Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you about architecture if you're in the mood, or I could definitely show you how to play the guitar, banjo, piano, or trumpet. I can teach you how to make music on the computer...
On the learning side of things, I want to know more about history, music history, neurology, Arduinos, economics, religion, and more broadly, the different ways in which humans live, the ideas and viewpoints they have, the things they make, the stories they tell, etc. etc. etc.
And I'd like to figure out how to brew my own beer.
