Overview
About Me
Just getting started on here, have mostly traveled with other people or visiting friends in different countries. Hope to be able to host in the future, but can't with my current landlord.
I'm a PhD student in mathematics, and also run a small education and conservation non-profit in Brazil. I play violin and run competitively. I stay busy but try to stay laid back, and don't ever count 'busy' as an excuse to not get a drink with friends or see a show last minute or just hang out.
I'm told I have a good sense of humor, which is something that never comes across well when you just tell people that, and have made a reputation for writing very good party invitation emails.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've done a fair bit of traveling, and am starting to look more for the meet interesting people style of traveling rather than the check off the top ten attractions style. I've been to the Lourve, now I'd rather swap interesting stories while drinking wine at a cafe nearby watching all the people taking pictures with their finger on top of the pyramid.
Also, let's be honest, converting hostel/hotel money into food/drink money is never a bad thing. But that's less of the point. There's always money for one more beer.

Music, Movies, and Books
I play violin so all sorts of classical, then jazz, folk, some experimental and electronic, and terrible 90s hip hop also holds a special place in my heart. Oh, also Taylor Swift.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Depending on your definitions of 'orphan' and 'fire', I once saved an orphan from a fire. It's not too much of a stretch...
I've also had a long conversation about mathematics with Will.i.am. Which sounds like a bunch of nonsense when I try to tell anyone what we talked about, but I swear it was real shit so I guess you just had to be there.
I converted a '94 VW Kombi to run on solar power, but then burned out the motor. Updates in progress...
I also play a bright blue electric violin.
What I Can Share with Hosts
humor, happiness, other travel stories and advice, probably some good youtube videos.
I can also offer extremely specialized knowledge on the electronics and starter motor mechanics of early model VW vans. Because you never know when you might need that.
