About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Sept. 2017 -To experience Spain and France on my honeymoon with my wife!

To re-integrate into "normal" society after traveling the world by bike...it's a pleasure to meet you, mon nom est Alexandre! http://wanderingwwoofer.blogspot.ca/

ABOUT ME

I've just finished my dream trip around the world with a very specific goal, and that was to fulfill my father's last wishes. Not only was this my first LONG bike touring trip, but overall it was incredibly meaningful to me because of my goal to honour the promise I made my dad. I have no doubt that he gave me the travel bug, and for that I am forever grateful.

I live and work in Kamloops BC, and spend my weekends at the Yurt on the lake. I would love to share my beautiful spot with travellers and backpackers alike. It's as close to paradise as I've found and I love it so much. I have taken lots of ideas from my travels, and implemented them back here at home. I try to live as organically as possible, produce as little waste as possible and just live simply, the beach fires at night and the stars are all I need.
I really enjoy doing energy exchanges! I was a WWOOFER on Kauai for two years, and I continue to do exchanges back here in Canada. I really love to trade and share with people, and it makes us all a little closer. Just looking to open my land and share my spot with some travellers!

In short, I consider myself a man of the world. I am happiest when I am immersed in other cultures, most intrigued when learning other languages, and absolutely thrilled when I am meeting new people. I have a formal education, but nothing has prepared me more for life then my travels.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I really like to host at my cabin, but it's not for everyone! I've couchsurfed in Europe, and stayed with some amazing people. A lot of my friends host around BC and I really enjoy supporting the Couchsurfing movement. While in Lithuania I participated in a lot of gatherings that brought some very good people together. When I was living on Kauai I would meet people for coffee and tell them about the things to do on the island.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I stayed with some people in Holland, and even got to spend the night in a houseboat on a canal in Amsterdam!! Had some really rewarding experiences there, and I tried to reciprocate that while I was on Kauai. I've hosted at home in Kamloops, and at my cabin.

Most important though, was the life changing experience I had on the road while cycling through 12 different countries. Couchsurfing had a huge impact on me personally, and on my trip, ask me about it!

Interests

Organic Farming, Yoga, Meditation, Chess, Philosophy, Kinesiology, French Culture, Bike Touring, Volleyball, StandUp Paddle Boarding, Hiking, Football, Surfing, Aerobee, Books, Music, Cross country skiing, Snowboarding, Table Tennis, Organic Foods and Healthy Treats.

I just want to travel. I want to meet people of different cultures so they can show me their lives, and show me their "reality". I want to meet the type of people that turn my world upside down and make me take a second look at what I stand for and who I am. Bike touring, in my opinion, is the most incredible way to travel and it's not always about the places you see, more often than not it's the people you meet.

I'm huge into cycling and have been touring a lot lately. During my trip to Europe in August 2014 I visited with family in France and biked through Europe camping along the way. I am fascinated by the idea that one can live off of a bike. Shelter, food, travel, and exercise all at once! What's more appealing than that?

Music, Movies, and Books

I loved Ken Follet's Pillars of the Earth, and World Without End. I think they impressed me the most because of how Mr. Follet was able to transport us back in time. I really like The Omnivore's Dilemma, and because I live in a Yurt, I really enjoyed Conn Iggulden's conquerer series on Ghengis Khan. Bikram's biography was amazing...what a story...I really enjoy hot yoga. Shantaram was an incredibly engaging story, having just travelled through India by bike it was especially memorable!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I home schooled for two years in Thailand when I was much younger. It was an amazing experience and I thank my dad for making that choice. Thailand has changed a lot since I was there as a child, but the beautiful smiles of the Thai people still remain.

I achieved a life long dream of playing Professional Volleyball in Europe!

I was an organic farmer on Kauai for 2 full winters doing an energy exchange there as a WWOOFer. We harvested mac nuts, and avocados, tangelos, lemons, limes, coconuts, and I also worked in a tropical plant nursery there!

I lived for two years without electricity, yes that means no TV, and chose to live a simple life working the land and organic farming. I cancelled the cellphone, move out to the woods and lived a sustainable and environmentally friendly way of life. I spent my summers in Canada at my cabin on the lake in BC, and then lived on Kauai, Hawaii on an organic farm in the winters.

I work in a Vascular Improvement Program, in conjunction with the local health authority. This program is unique and one of only a few of its kind across Canada. Acknowledging the importance of daily physical activity we help people get back to exercise after having suffered a cardiac event. We give exercise prescriptions and lead strength and stretch sessions! It's hands on work, and it is truly inspiring to help others! What these people have been through is nothing short of extraordinary, and if I can help change someone's life by introducing physical activity...even just once...then I am truly blessed.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to maintain your bike. I can share my knowledge of organic farming. I can show you my piece of paradise. I hope to learn about the world and where you have travelled.
