ABOUT ME

I'm Alex. Perhaps we begin a couple of years ago: Upon returning to NZ from adventures involving some musical instruments and an old bus driving circles of North America I happened to meet the beautiful Coralee and somehow became occupied with my doctoral studies. Yeah, I honestly don't know how that happened! In 2009 the plan is to travel a bit whilst collecting data for my studies. A little bit of work, a little bit of play I think :-) Not sure where to after that to tell you the truth. I love cities and I love bicycles. I love the ocean and playing in it's embrace....but quite often it will eat me up and remind me it's no-ones friend! I love meeting others and receiving a smile back from strangers as I pass on by.

Coralee and I just love to be together. I can't stop smiling when I'm with her. I bet you won't be able to either! We are excited to be uprooting for a little while and can't wait to see where our lives are taking us (which, incidentally, just so happens to be USA and Canada in 2009. See you soon!

PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy eh?...how about this: "There is no greatness where there is no simplicity, goodness and truth". I stole that one though. Seriously, I think I'm still working on developing my own personal philosophy. There seems to be so little time, to learn all I want to learn, to see all I want to see, and to meet all whom I want to meet. Feels like constantly trying to catch up, you know? - is that a philosophy? - it will do for now

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In NZ we have been hosting a bunch of people and having so much fun showing them our little city and coast. I love having couchsurfers in my house more than I like being in my house without them :-)

Coralee and I have stayed with a bunch of great hosts too. Surfing all over California and the USA and Canada.

Interests

My studies at present are related to Wi-Fi, cities, public spaces, architecture, technology and society...but at times I am as equally consumed by music, cycling, even the ocean. Actually, the truth is, I ride my bicycle obsessively.

Coralee has been a health and physical education teacher at high schools for the past two years....but that's on hold for a bit while we explore a little. She takes photographs, generally uplifts the spirits of others around her, and, at present, is way too into the Harry Potter books(haha, sorry Coralee).

Music, Movies, and Books

Honestly, I'm a sucker for most films. I think I can escape too easily into the different worlds on offer. Favourite book, hands down, Catcher in the Rye - but really I enjoy reading about the city, and how people are able to lose themselves (or find themselves) in its embrace.
