Overview
About Me
I used to be a software engineer living in San Francisco. Then I ran out of visa and figured it might be fun to travel for a year. My clients don't seem to care where I work from, so now I'm a digital nomad.
I also help organize hackerparadise.org - a traveling community for others like me, or for people who just want to work from an exotic location for a little while. We're heading to Vietnam, Bali and Thailand next, starting Feb 15.
If you're so very curious, I have a short bio at about.alexeymk.com
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Several friends and neighbors have raved about the experience.
Back in San Francisco, my girlfriend and I used to host a weekly dinner where we would cook and invite friends and their friends for interesting conversation and drinks. Couchsurfing seems like a fun way to extend the practice while I travel.
Interests
I'm unabashadly nerdy.
- German-style board games (if you've ever played Settlers of Catan - like that)
- Behavioral economics (did research on Mechanical Turkers in college)
- Cycling (mostly road cycling - we did a trip from Italy to Croatia last summer)
- Rock Climbing (mostly bouldering, and I'm not particularly good yet)

Music, Movies, and Books
Books: Catch 22, a bunch of Vonnegut and Hemingway, the Hitchhiker's Guide,
Movies: I'm a fan but can't necessarily point to favorites. 12 Monkeys was solid.
Music: Lots of stuff here and there. Always love to go listen to live instrumental Jazz at a club.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I achieved a bureaucratic victory, against all odds, against the military-industrial complex. Ask me over a beer.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: I can explain (sort of) Bitcoin, if you're curious. Also I teach board games, computer programming, a bunch of human behavior stuff...
Learn: Honestly, I'm open to learn most anything. Languages are hard though.
Share: Happy to lend a hand or bring drinks to dinner. I'm a terrible chef, but a reasonable at chopping vegetables and washing dishes.
What I Can Share with Hosts
My unyielding optimism, perhaps? Open to ideas.
