About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I want to experience new people and places as much as possible. When you sit together at a table and break bread in another's home or yours, you learn a lot about someone. Also, every time you visit a new place and meet new people, it changes a part of you.....permanently. I respond to everyone's request as quickly as possible!

ABOUT ME

I think I would couch surf if I made a million dollars a year because getting to know people who love to travel is priceless.

I typically do not host anyone who has no references. Sorry!

I live in my dream tiny home on a beautiful lake with a million dollar view, 2 blocks from the Chesapeake Bay by the Atlantic Ocean (10 minute walk to the beach) on the east coast. I live about about 6 and a half hours south of New York City and 3 and a half hours south of Washington, DC.

I live in an upscale, quiet, unique residential section of Virginia Beach in the Hampton Roads/Tidewater area. This area has a lot to offer with big cities, mountains, beaches and everything in-between within hours. I am within walking distance of a few restaurants and bars. You would need to rent a car to get around though.

PHILOSOPHY

I live my life with the basic tenant that most people are good at heart. We all want/need the same things and are more alike than different, no matter where you're from. I love the premise of couch surfing that you create a better world, one couch at a time. People who love to travel are usually very friendly, nice, intelligent people who are tolerant of others. I think that's because they are not afraid to go out of their comfort zone. We are definitely all connected.

I love to have fun! I am a nice, normal person who just wants to see new places and meet new interesting people. Can you ever have too many friends in this life?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have a "founder" badge on this page due to being one of the first people to participate in couch surfing. I have hosted many, many people over the years and they have all been positive experiences.

COUCH SURFING EXPERIENCE

My hosting experiences have been wonderful, lovely, awesome, every overused adjective you can think of!!! I have spoken to many others online for travel tips, which is just one of the many, many reasons to join couch surfing.

Interests

Obviously, I love to travel. I love to listen to live music, comics, hang out with friends and family, be outside, go to the beach, movies, parks, cook, garden, and ride my motorcycle. I will try anything fun, interesting, and moral once. The field of disabilities is my passion, especially issues regarding persons with an intellectual disability and aging. I am semi-retired.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love independent films and documentaries. I love short stories. I like all of John Krachaer's books, especially Into the Wild and Into Thin Air. I like a lot of music genres. When people ask, I always say I just like good music. I love listening to musicians who you love as I'm always open to new music. My son is a singer/guitarist/songwriter who plays in the area. He is my favorite musician : ) He also does stand-up and improv comedy. Come see a show with me!

I especially like helping out various artists with a place to stay so you can put your resources towards your art!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing things I've done have mostly been while traveling...hanging with cowboys under a Colorado night sky around a campfire, helping a friend run a 100 mile marathon, riding a bull (for two seconds), snorkeling in great places all over the world, completing the Landmark Forum, traveling through many other countries and the USA, and of course, having and raising my beautiful, talented adult son who now has a beautiful son of his own, my heart and love Auggie.

Mostly I want to hear about the amazing things you've done??

Teach, Learn, Share

There is always something to learn from every person you meet!!!!! Everyone has their own unique story and I love to hear it ! If you get lucky, you teach them something too. I especially love sharing ideas and cultures with people from other countries. I love to show someone how to make a meal that they don't know how to make and I love learning how to make a meal from you. I also love helping people from other places with their travel needs. If you need it and I have it to give, it's yours.

What I Can Share with Hosts

For me, this should be titled What I Can Share With Guests since I've only stayed at another's home once. I can share with guests whatever it is you might need and I have....whether it be time, company, things, a meal, an English lesson, or knowledge about where I live.

If you want to just be on your own without much intrusion from me, that's fine too! My life is full.
