About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To soak up everything Melbourne has to offer, settle into the Aussie lifestyle and see what the next stage will bring...

ABOUT ME

After taking my first big trip around India and Southeast Asia in 2013 I caught the bug pretty bad. As soon as I got back to England I started figuring out how I was going to fund my next trip, and the one after that, and the one after that! The plan is to spend a year in Australia, mostly work, do a bit of travel and then move on to America with a little nest egg in my pocket.

I'll be arriving in Melbourne on the 14th of May, and wanted to give couchsurfing a go for a couple of weeks until I get some accommodation and work sorted, get to know the city and generally find my feet. I'd like to get involved in the music and arts scene while I'm in Melbourne too, I've been a DJ since I was about 16 (Currently playing House, Nu Disco, some Tecchy stuff) and am a keen amatuer photographer- if you can help with any of these I would love to hear from you!

I'm easy going and get on with pretty much anyone, I'm told I'm good conversation and have my funny moments- no guarantees though! As a house guest I think I'm pretty good, I will always be respectful towards my host, I'm neat and tidy, a good cook and a firm believer that one good turn deserves another. I enjoy busy city life and a good party, but have to have a balance with more relaxing activities- some chilling out on a beach, movies, sightseeing, reading, yoga and even the occasional cultural activity!

I believe life is for living and that you have to take risks and throw yourself in at the deep end. I love a challenge and am at my happiest when learning something new, getting to know people, and growing as a person. I have been lucky enough to have met some amazing characters in my time, and hope to meet many more- I think you can learn something from everyone, and the more I find out about the world, the less I realise I do know!

PHILOSOPHY

There are so many things I could put here, so for now I'm just going to settle for a couple of quotes that pretty much sum up life for me at the moment-

"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!""- Hunter S. Thompson

"Be the change you wish to see in the world"- Gandhi

"The fool doth think he is wise, the wise man knows himself to be a fool"- William Shakespeare

"I can resist anything but temptation"- Oscar Wilde

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Although I've not used this site yet I spent some time in Mumbai where I fell in with some British ex-pats and had a fantastic stay. Doing the tourist trail was great, but having the inside track on the city made it an infinitely more fun and rewarding experience! After that I decided that I could definitely give this couchsurfing thing another shot and signed up, I'm really looking forward to meeting some interesting people and having some new experiences :)

Interests

Music in (almost!) all its forms, djing, photography, art, design and architecture, history, challenging myself, reading, learning, banter, new people/places/things, film, the English language, cooking, yoga, generally broadening my horizons.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've had some amazing experiences whilst travelling, but one that really stands out was paragliding in India, in Manali in the foothills of the Himalayas. I have a bit of a fear of heights, so it was a quite an experience, alternating between gut-wrenching terror and sublime beauty! The incredible scenery was almost enough for me to stop thinking "what if the harness broke?"... almost!
