About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Getting know my home country

ABOUT ME

I'm deeply committed to seeing the world become a more sustainable, equitable, more interesting place. I'm not necessarily quiet but I can be reserved. I've got some time before starting my next job and I'd like to see the US and meet people who are doing cool things in their communities.

PHILOSOPHY

Life and luck are yours to make. I want my legacy to be a world that is even just a little more resilient, happy, and interesting. For now, visiting different places is preparing me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Before I got my own account, I've hosted a handful of CSers in Blacksburg (and once in Switzerland) who've been visiting for conferences & concerts or simply passing through. In any case, I've been excited to show them around, introduce them to new people, cook with them, go hiking and exploring, etc.

This is my first trip on which I've actually couch surfed. I'm excited to meet you, but I can keep a low profile, too. I prefer to make as small of a physical footprint as possible in your home, but I'd love to learn from you and help out while I'm around.

I'm open; let's do stuff.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've done some couch surfing by luck of meeting people and thanks to friends I've travelled with that had accounts. I'm excited to have an account of my own.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love science fiction and any books that help me think about my world in new ways. Iain M Banks, John Scalzi, Martin Millar, and Kameron Hurley are some of my favorite contemporary authors.

Some of my favorite movies include Vicky Christina Barcelona, Scott Pilgrim, The Limits of Control, and (of course) Star Wars.

I love all sorts of music, especially trip hop, indie folk, and experimental stuff. My listening history is here www.last.fm/user/netdoc01

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiking between the towns in Italy's Cinque Terre and spending a freezing night sleeping atop a WWII bunker. The sunrise on the sea in the morning shone with orange and purple light that perfectly complemented the colorful homes on the cliffs.

Seeing Reykjavik in August for a massive city-wide music festival. That night, darkness lasted only twenty minutes but a massive fireworks display was put on over the harbor. It was beautiful!

Teach, Learn, Share

Cooking is a passion of mine; if you're up for some experimentation or some classic focused cuisine I'm your guy. I love graphic design and can teach you all about kerning (ha, but really) and Illustrator. I can teach you some hula hoop tricks, too.

Countries I’ve Visited

Brazil, Egypt, France, Turkey, United States, Uzbekistan

Countries I’ve Lived In

Iceland, Japan, Netherlands, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States
