About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Enjoy the finer things in life and leave things a little better than I found them.

ABOUT ME

I like talking about myself but that doesn't mean I'm good at describing myself. But I've noticed I can be either reserved or outgoing; quiet or loud. It all depends on who I am interacting with. I try to live a full life but sometimes I'm lazy, or at least I value a reflective moment or two. I am responsible but I always make time for fun. There is ALWAYS time for fun.

PHILOSOPHY

As Homer Simpson said "I can't live the button-down life. I want it all! The terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles!"

And as Kurt Vonnegut Jr. said "God damn it, you've got to be kind."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love to meet up and/or crash with CS'ers while traveling and host when able--- hopefully after summer I'll be able to host again! I'm also routinely down for local CS meet-ups.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couchsurfing has connected me to great people in my own cities and in my travels.

Interests

Rock climbing, mountain biking, bicycling for everyday transportation, hardcourt bike polo, movement in general, going on adventures and making memories, experiencing new places and getting a feel for the people who live there, cooking and sharing meals, nutrition and food, wine and beer, novels, nonfiction--- any form of reading, Scrabble, backgammon, movies and film, following/ discussing the news in a vain attempt to figure out how the world works, history, friends, novelties and novel experiences, impromptu dance parties, converting fun-haters, preventing the impending robot apocalypse!

Music, Movies, and Books

Tool, Daft Punk, Talking Heads, Gorillaz, Sleigh Bells, Beck, Hot Chip, Terminator 2, Aliens, Pulp Fiction, Blue Velvet, the Shining, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Mother Night, Sirens of Titan, H.G. Wells, White Noise, Everything Matters!, A Confederacy of Dunces, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Empire of Illusion, Never Let Me Go, Still Life with Woodpecker, CivilWarLand in Bad Decline, A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again, People's History of the United States, etc etc etc

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Notable sights: a view of the New River Gorge from the catwalk underneath the western hemisphere's largest arch bridge (and most everything else about the New is beautiful, full of memories and dear to my heart), the legendary forests of Fontainebleau, the iconic desert monoliths of Moab, the fairytale woods of Whistler, the yucca and piles of boulders at Joshua Tree, and the stone mountains of western North Carolina. And those are just the most memorable of rock climbing and mountain biking adventures!

Teach, Learn, Share

Ask me anything you want about food and nutrition. I can (and do) spend all day talking about this stuff. Any area of nutrition is on the table from questions about individual foods to disease-specific medical nutrition therapy. I know a thing or two about most types of bikes, whether it is how to fix them, how to ride them, what to consider when purchasing them or how to gaze adoringly at them. I can answer most questions about great places to rock climb on the East coast or also climbing technique and how to train. I'm a decent editor, too.
