Figuring out my place in the world

ABOUT ME

I wish it were easy to say what I "do", though it largely depends on the day you ask me. I'm currently hovering between professions and livelihoods, and at present I swing between being a film-maker and a teacher, and film-making teacher.

Over the past ten years I've lived in five different countries in addition to my homeland (USA): Germany, Italy, Chile, Argentina, and England in that order. After three and a half years living in the latter two South American countries, I now speak a mix of Chilean and Argentine Spanish (che, vos me entendés? Si po, yo cacho...)

Everything interests me: languages, science, exploration, politics, astronomy, world history, film, philosophy, geography, etc. Even though I know very little or nothing about many of those things, my hope is that someday I can learn more about them and apply my knowledge hopefully to better the world but at least to improve myself.

Above all, I have decided to dedicate my life to learning new things, meeting new people, and constantly improving my outlook on the world!

PHILOSOPHY

Quite aware of my fleeting youth, I live to absorb the world, hone my perception skills, and practice tolerance. I see my years now as years of apprenticeship, my masters being everyone I meet and can learn something from. I seek self-improvement in every way and believe that no knowledge is worth discarding.

SOBRE MI:

No es fácil describir lo que hago... mi ocupación cambia mucho y depende del día que me preguntas. A veces profesor de inglés, a veces cineasta, y a veces profesor cineasta.

En los últimos diez años he vivido en cuatro países extranjeros: Alemania, Italia, Chile, y Argentina. Después de tres años en los últimos dos países, hablo con una mezcla de acento chileno y argentino (che, vos me entendés? Si po, yo cacho...)

Todo me interesa- los idiomas, la ciencia, la exploración, el ejercicio, el polí­tico, la gastronomía, la astronomía, la historia del mundo, el cine, la filosofía, la geografía, etc. A pesar de que comprendo poco o nada sobre estas cosas, quiero aprender más y aplicar mi conocimiento para mejorar el mundo, o por lo menos, mejorar yo mismo.

Sobre todo, he dedicado mi vida a aprender cosas nuevas, encontrar personas interesantes, y siempre mejorar mi perspectiva del mundo!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For a long time I was hosting in Bozeman, Montana. In recent years I use it for traveling and/or just meeting people!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been on Couchsurfing for YEARS (practically since the beginning!), mostly as a host in Montana, but in recent years as a way to meet people in places I live or travel to. Couchsurfing has actually been a huge factor in many of my closest friendships.

Interessen

Over the years I've become increasingly interested in science, particularly astronomy. Questions of the immensity of the universe intrigues me, and I really enjoy discussing things of that nature.

I'm also a big fan of history, and find great value in learning from the past.

I love learning languages, and can safely say it's a hobby of mine. I've only mastered Spanish, but working my way through German and Portuguese now! I dream of learning French someday, and perhaps one day will get to Arabic, but I also understand the value of patience and so I will wait until I'm ready.

I love camping! I seriously feel there is nothing better in life than living in a tent in the wilderness. Collecting firewood, making coffee, exploring the surroundings... simply amazing.

Hiking massive peaks and taking panorama pictures; Discussing life and the universe with fellow curious people; Traveling (of course), Tasting a delicious new beer or wine and discussing the comparison to drinks I've had in the past, Learning anything that I possibly can about the world, and pondering the possibilities of the questions that will never be answered...

Musik, Filme und Bücher

I studied film, so I've seen a lot of movies and I love talking about them! I love a good classic, try to watch all the best modern films, and never miss a quality science-fiction film.

I love reading as well, and often have two or three books going at the same time. I alternate relatively evenly between fiction and nonfiction. As for music, while I was in Chile I became familiar with the Nueva Cancion movement, and have since become enthralled with the beauty of Latin American folk music.
