ABOUT ME

Hi! My friend/roommate Hollett and I are two mid-twenties ladies from the lovely and freezing island of Newfoundland, on the east coast of Canada. We both really love cooking, cats, adventures, the outdoors, wrestling (just kidding) and music. Both having completed arts degrees at Memorial University in Newfoundland, we have spent the past couple of years branching outside of the stuffy confines of academia into the actual big bright world. We are also really clean (especially Hollett).

PHILOSOPHY

If you just stop for a minute and look at all of the inspiring new things the world has to offer, just waiting to be found, boredom is an impossibility

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have housed many out-of-towners, tons of travelling musicians, and travellers in a pinch many times. Our house has been used to billet musical acts during such local music festivals as Lawnya Vawnya and St. John's Folk Festival. Even though we're just joining the couch surfing website, we have a network of friends who are engaged in the couch surfing community. As such, even though this is our first time getting connected directly through the site, we are very closely linked to the couch surfing world and love cultivating a friendly and communal environment and a friendly open vibe!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I used to live in a beautiful rainbow house in a section of St John's called the battery, which is a crazy little coastal corner off the water with an outport feel yet a ten minute walk from downtown, and there we hosted lots of wacky friends from all over North America. I best remember a unicornesque tall blond guy named Justin who was hitching across the country to reach his girlfriend. A couple years later, I became best friends with a girl from BC named Mary Decker, who not only knew justin but had convinced him to hitch and couch surf across! it's a small and intricate world!

Interesses

Aley is an avid player and supporter of music. she can play the piano, guitar, melodica, uke, or just sing you a song a cappella. She also loves riding her bike, swimming, reading, writing, cooking, cats, and nerding out about coffee.

Hollett is a lovely little sunflower of capability and enthusiastic joy de vive (Aley is writing this, by the way; Hollett is also modest). She has developed a love for farming, and spent her summer working at a local organic farm in Newfoundland. You can find her in the kitchen making great vegetarian meals, hanging out with one of our 3 cats, going on outdoor adventures in all kinds of weather, zipping around waitressing, or knitting some beautiful creation for a friend.
