Hi! I´m Alfonso, Argentinean 25-year-old. I am de Director and founder of Impacto Digital: a non-profit organization that develops tech and global solutions to social problems (www.impactodigital.org). I came to Qatar, invited by the Qatar Foundation to give some workshops about the future of work in the Wise Summit (https://wise-qatar.org). I took the opportunity and extend my trip for 3 more weeks, so I could learn a little more about the culture and places around.

This is how I perceived myself when I was 20 years old, 4 years ago, when I start a one year trip :

Hi! My name is Alfonso Aguilera, I’m 20 years old and both my parents are doctors. Until some weeks ago I was studying economics in the Buenos Aires University (Universidad de Buenos Aires-UBA) and was the owner of a mobile bar catering business for private events. Nothing really different from what society was expecting for me.

I’ve always enjoyed traveling, but I have never done it for more than two months, the time I get for holidays in college. This year I’ve decided to make a 180° change in my life. I gathered all the money I could and bought a one-way ticket to the other side of the world (Malaysia). I’m not really sure of what I’m looking for (except for a paradise beach without internet access and not having the chance of updating my profile!), but I expect to find out.

Even though I’m not as skillful as I would like to be, I’m practically fan of every sport. My favorite is football (soccer), and I play paddle, rugby, I swim, snowboard, windsurf, handball, play tennis and chess (I carry one with me), even though the idea of considering it a sport has never convinced me.
I’m always trying new things. Some of the things I’ve done or still do: I play the piano and at some point gave it a shot with the guitar, drums, harmonica and didgeridoo (an indigenous instrument). I’ve studied drama, clown, woodcarving, juggling, basketry, I’ve hosted a radio show and done a writing workshop. Also had really different startups: sold bracelets, dream catchers, chocolate nuts, jam, earrings, raffle tickets, and owned coffee vending machines. I’ve worked in a call center, as a dishwasher, barman and volunteered for 5 years in a non-profit organization, “Cultivarte”, where I worked as a teacher for 2 to 5 years old, and as a gardening teacher for teenagers. I was close to studying film directing, and my best work was a documentary called “a different perspective about insecurity”, where I analyzed the problem of insecurity, a really controversial topic in my country.

My two big failures in my life: learn how to sing and how to draw. I would also like to improve my cooking.

I studied in a Waldorf School.

I am also an instructor in CPR and first aid.

Hola! Mi nombre es Alfonso Aguilera, tengo 20 años y soy hijo de dos médicos. Hasta hace muy poco era estudiante de Economía en la UBA (Universidad de Buenos Aires) y tenía una empresa de Barras Libres para eventos privados. Nada muy diferente a lo que la sociedad esperaba de mi.

Siempre me gusto viajar, pero nunca me corrí de los dos meses que me daba la facultad. Este año decidí hacer un cambio rotundo en mi vida; Junte toda la plata que pude y saqué un pasaje de ida al otro lado del mundo (Malasia). Todavía no se en busca de qué (salvo que me encuentre en este momento en una playa paradisiaca sin acceso a internet y no pueda actualizar el perfil!) pero espero averiguarlo.

Aunque no soy tan habilidoso como me gustaría, soy bastante fan de casi todos los deportes. Mi preferido el futbol, juego al paddle e hice rugby, natación, snowboard, windsurf, handball, tenis, pelota paleta y ajedrez (llevo uno encima), aunque nunca me convenció la idea de considerarlo un deporte.

Estoy siempre probando nuevas cosas. Alguna de las cosas que hice o hago; Toco el piano y en algún momento empecé con guitarra, batería, armónica, didgeridoo (instrumento aborigen) y percusión. Hice teatro, clown, tallado, malabares, cestería, conduje un programa de radio y algo de un taller literario. También tuve emprendimientos de lo más variados: Vendí pulseras, atrapa sueños, nueces bañadas en chocolate, mermelada, aritos, rifas y tuve máquinas expendedoras de café en sanatorios (de esas que te dan café por monedas). Trabajé en un call center, de lava copas, barman y fui voluntario 5 años en la ONG “Cultivarte”, donde fui maestro de chicos de 2 a 5 años y profesor de huerta con jóvenes. Estuve cerca de estudiar cine, lo mejor que hice fue un documental llamado “la otra cara de la inseguridad” en el que traté de dar una mirada al tema de la delincuencia, muy polémico en mi país, centrada en los barrios más vulnerables. Hice el ingreso a ingeniería mecánica, el Camino del Inca (Machu Pichu), Bunge Jumping, Bueceo, Parapente, me saque una foto agarrando la Torre Eiffel con los dedos, plante un árbol y planeo algún día escribir un libro y tener un hijo…

Mis dos grandes fracasos: Aprender a cantar y dibujar. También me gustaría cocinar mejor.

Fui a la primaria y secundaria a un colegio Waldorf.

También soy instructor de RCP y primeros auxilios!

Esto es lo mejor que pude hacer en la difícil tarea de describirse en una carilla.
