Overview
About Me
My name is Alfonso, I'm a Mexican-Canadian living in Utrecht, Netherlands.
I spent my early youth in Cuernavaca, Mexico, but moved to Montreal when I was 11 years old. I am currently studying a Master's degree at Utrecht University in New Media and Digital Culture. I am interested in the arts, mainly photography, videography, design, and creative coding, and I have been working in community work for the past year. One of my main research interests is how technology and design can positively impact the community sector and improve social services!
I love traveling, I love meeting people, I love cooking and sharing meals, drinks, and stories.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am currently having lots of difficulty finding housing in Utrecht. Although I am searching for a new place every day, I might have to be surfing couches for a few days before I can really settle anywhere. And, I'm taking this as an opportunity to meet some amazing people!

Music, Movies, and Books
I love listening to various genres, but specifically alternative hip-hop, deep house electronic music (bonus points for live instrumentation in the tracks), and amapiano.
I read many different types of books but especially love speculative fiction and narrative non-fiction.
The movies and TV shows that I watch are also varied: I care less about genre and more about quality of writing, dialogue, and plot. Some of my favourite movies are "Everything Everywhere All At Once", "Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse", and "Midsommar".
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One of the highlights of my life was climbing Mount Fuji in Japan, and seeing the sunrise from the top of the mountain. A scene I will never forget.
Teach, Learn, Share
I want to learn a lot about open source systems and understand how free and accessible software and hardware can be incredibly beneficial to people! I would love to integrate new media into the world of social work and understand how the world can benefit from people-led, non-profit initiatives and technologies.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share my time, my stories, my thoughts on the social state of the world, and my many far-reaching philosophies on life and its metaphysics.
I also consider myself to be a good cook so I would love to share many meals with whoever can host me!
