I'm on couchsurfing because it is a great opportunity to meet new people from around the world. There's nothing like doing a traveller a favor by letting them use your couch/house. And it's as great to have such a favor done to you :)
It does not only save money. But it's a big gain at the same time, out of experience with this site.
