About Me

My husband Alfred and I quit our jobs to travel for 2 years. However, after a couple of months my husband realised that travelling is not for him. We returned home & moved in with my parents for a while to decide how to best spend our remaining time.

Long story short: My husband will be based in Austria while I get to traipse around the globe some more. In February I will take a freight ship from Bremerhaven, Germany, to Veracruz, Mexico. It will be my first time in Mexico and I can't wait to explore :)

From there, I am tremendously excited to travel Central America and hope to meet as many of you as I can - for a coffee, a walk around your town, a day hike or maybe even for a night or three on your couch.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because it's probably the best idea since the invention of food.

Interests

I love the outdoors. I walk, I hike, I have enjoyed kayaking/ canooing, I ski alpine style and do ski tours (where you walk uphill with your skies, then ski down). One of my biggest life goals is to learn to surf.

I love everything about food: Growing (I had a fantastic veg and herb garden on my balcony), preparing, cooking, eating. Since 2014, I have been following a plant-based diet and enjoy the added creativity and breadth it has given to my cooking. If you let me, I'll dance around your kitchen like a derwish whilst whipping up a memorable meal.

My other big passion is sustainability and I aim to keep my footprint as small as possible (yes, I am aware that as a traveller from Europe it's pretty humongous already).

Music, Movies, and Books

I have watched almost every episode of NCIS (many of them multiple times) except for the current season. I hope the series will never end.

While I actually read cook books and Lonely Planet guidebooks. My fave cook books include everything by The Lotus and the Artichoke and Deliciously Ella.

Some of my favourite novels have been: almost everything by Salman Rushdie, Donna Leon's Brunetti series, Shantaram, The Book Thief and countless others.

Alfred is more the music-type and will spent a lot of time earplugged.

We have both just discovered podcasts for us.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Too many. Not a single one of them was amazing because I did it but was something I did that turned out to be amazing. Moments I carry with me.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can take you on walks, tell you about my home Austria (Vienna, where I lived, and the rural region I grew up in), teach you to dance salsa, basic bachata and Viennese waltz.

Over the years I have become pretty versed in all things sustainability and am always eager to share (simple and practical) ways to lessen our impact.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If allowed, I will cook up a vegan storm in your kitchen and generously share my kitchen secrets & recipes.
