Overview
About Me
I was born and raised in Alabama, and have traveled a lot throughout the US and around the world. I went to school outside of Philly, and even though it had never been my plan growing up, I moved back to Alabama when I graduated. These days most of my travel is shorter-distance -- my job gives me the opportunity to travel throughout the state to lots of little corners I never would otherwise get to see. I like to get off the beaten path. I identify as queer, and my girlfriend and I are both deeply involved in a breadth of social justice organizing here in Birmingham. We have three cats and a dog, and love to cook.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I prefer down-to-earth authentic engagement with people and places to manufactured "experiences," when I travel. And since I have an apartment with a little extra elbow room, I want to give other folks the opportunity to engage with Birmingham in the same way, when they're traveling.
Interests
Social activism and community organizing (racial justice, immigrant justice, queer/trans justice, environmental/food justice), farming and gardening, ultimate frisbee, hiking.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love essays by Wendell Berry, and the fiction of Toni Morrison, Louise Erdrich, William Faulkner, and others. I am mostly an aspirational reader though -- I have bookshelves full of books I would love to get around to reading one day...
