About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Have adventures, make good art!

ABOUT ME

Artist in SF who likes to make everyday things ridiculous in order to see them in reality. Grew up in upstate NY, miss it a bit, but loving life here in the Bay. There's so much nature here!

PHILOSOPHY

We're all gonna die...as Sufjan Stevens put it in "Fourth of July"

Follow your bliss, as Joseph Campbell would say. Plans are great, but you've ultimately got to follow whatever your innards, guts, or heart tells you...for instance, I have lively conversations with my spleen...jk :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am trying to integrate more giving into my everyday life (as a resistance to capitalism that pervades life) and couchsurfing feels very aligned with this ideal. I live in a cooperative house with six other housemates. We have two sleep-able couches in the living room and one fold-out couch in the basement. Let's share food and conversation, too!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted three people and went to some meetups back in Ithaca, NY, and one person in SF, I'm curious to see who comes through! Covid messed this up, but I'm vaxxed and ready to get back out there.

Interests

Painting, art, flowers, plants, kittens, bunnies, good books, good movies, and semi-good TV shows. I also make animal hoodies in my spare time.

Music, Movies, and Books

LOVE: Bo Burnham's INSIDE, Sufjan Stevens, Pushing Daisies, MGMT, of Montreal, Ratatat, Miyazaki films, Satoishi Kon films, Chris Ware, Beach House, Master of None, True Blood, rewatching the OC and seeing how it does not hold up in 2021.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have been pecked on the head by mother terns while scaling a cliff on an island off the shore of New Hampshire. All in the name of science :)
It's less of a "wow" thing, but I think it's amazing that I've been able to see the evolution of my coop's backyard garden-haven over the past six years, and have contributed many experiments in gardening and art-making...some of which were successful, but some were not.

Teach, Learn, Share

When you put bright colors next to dull colors, it is much more dramatic than putting bright next to bright. Also, when drawing people, we all have the tendency to enlarge the heads because people focus on faces so much.

You can use a bucket in your shower to catch greywater and use it to water your garden!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Cooking for large groups of people! I lived in a house with up to 14 people, and cooked giant meals, it was really fun. Also, can draw, paint, embroider, and teach people to paint and draw.
