About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Whatever, so long as there are no children involved.

ABOUT ME

Twentysomething, grew up in the city, can navigate roads really well but put me in wide open spaces and I freak out.
I'm pretty active at all hours of the day, but I'm at work for most of those hours and I hardly get any sleep, so substantial breaks with good conversation and good company are well appreciated.
I take alcohol in moderation, don't smoke, down 4> cups of coffee a day, and drink lots of tea. I EAT A LOT (but no meat) then walk or dance it off.

PHILOSOPHY

"Everything is its own reward."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Manila is a pretty awesome city but it can be confusing to navigate especially if you're not a local. If you need someone to "get lost" in this city with, I'm a good bet; if you want to explore the local music scene or pick a place to eat I'll be glad to take you out and find you somewhere to crash for free afterwards. I love meeting new people and learning about different cultures.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Admittedly, I've been less successful with couchsurfing requests than with GlobalFreeloaders or airbnb. My friends have always been the most accommodating and gracious hosts in these past few years of travel. I've been exploring Asia lately, where I usually stick to hostels so I don't have to deal with the language barrier.

Interests

live music, people who laugh a lot, and I update this space fairly regularly: http://alicesarmiento.wordpress.com

Music, Movies, and Books

The Flaming Lips, Stereolab, Andrew Bird, Animal Collective, PJ Harvey, of Montreal, Neutral Milk Hotel, Broken Social Scene, Michel Gondry, Charlie Kaufman, Judd Apatow, I love Pushing Daisies and it saddens me that they had to cancel it, Dave Eggers, Aleksandar Hemon, Jeffrey Brown, Adrian Tomine

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm in the middle of a shit ton of ethnographic research while contributing to an encyclopedia, so that's going pretty well; if you haven't been to Kaohsiung, you should go; the 9th Gwangju Biennale was amazing; Wayne Coyne rolling overhead in a zorb; we'll talk about it when we meet!

Teach, Learn, Share

I sew. I write. I'm wrapping up a master's degree in curatorial studies. I'll make you breakfast.

A lot of my work is up here: http://new-slang.com and here: http://alicesarmiento.wordpress.com

I also write about the local music scene and transcribe interviews here: http://peripheraluniverse.wordpress.com
