About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Back in Australia after six years of adventures living, working and studying in Europe, Cambodia and the United States.

Viewing Australia with fresh eyes, but admittedly still itchy feet :)

The below is now out of date, but I'll leave it there til I have time to update it!

ABOUT ME

In D.C. you'll find me biking the monuments, scouring the farmers markets and juggling the best of D.C's arts and culture on the cheap with my Masters study.

Its a long way from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where my couch surfing odyssey started last year during a year long stint doing human rights work and playing couch surfing tour guide in my spare time. D.C. may not be as sweaty, exotic or chaotic as South East Asia, but its certainly still a lot of fun!

For background purposes I should say that I was born in (and love) Sydney, but I've also had a stab at exploring many other parts of the world. I've done exchange studies in Sweden during uni, done the 'Australian living in London' thing for a while and traveled pretty extensively throughout South America, Europe and Asia, quite a bit of it as solo traveler.

In 2009 year after a brief stint in a nice, respectful, safe job as a graduate lawyer in big Sydney law firm (which I couldn't stand), I decided to throw caution to the wind and arranged a year's volunteer position living and working in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, with a legal education organisation. There was no way from there I could head back to regular Sydney legal life, so I pulled together an application and ended up here at Georgetown University studying International Law.

You should come and check it out here - to be honest I was never really dreaming of America as the next destination on my to-do list, but I'm absolutely loving this place!

PHILOSOPHY

Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever- Mahatma Ghandi

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I dabbled in hosting while I was living and working in Phnom Penh in 2009-2010 (had some great exchanges, and collected some highly amusing stories).

Now back in Aus without the same time (or space) to host, but hoping to continue exploring Couch Surfing when I get to travel...

Interests

Photography, music, good food, running, yoga, random musings over glasses of wine (and sharing all of the above with other up-for-it people!)

Music, Movies, and Books

Constantly changing (and especially open to recommendations)! But at the moment...
Movies: Into the Wild, American Beauty, Man on Wire
Music: Radiohead, The National, The XX, Beach House, London Grammar, Bon Iver, M83, Passion Pit, Eddie Vedder Vampire Weekend...and a whole lot of random 80s/90s/classical/jazz stuff that I can't let go of!

If you stay at my place we will have music on all the time...be warned! But I'm always up for new recommendations if you want to play yours too :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Snorkeling with baby sea lions and sharks on the Galapagos has to be up there, as does jumping from a sauna into a frozen lake near the Ice Hotel in Sweden...

...but I think my favourite has to be just camping outside in nothing more than a canvas sack under the stars of the remote Western Australian 'outback' sky in the Kimberleys. Totally breathtaking.
