About Me
I'm Ali and I will be traveling together with my best friend Saskia.
We are both students in college in Karlsruhe, Germany but are currently studying abroad for a semester. Ali studied at NAU in Flagstaff, AZ, while Saskia spent her past semester at Halmstad University on the south coast of Sweden.
Before going to college we have travelled and lived in the US for two years. There we worked as Au pairs and lived with a hostfamily, which was great because it gave us the opportunity to really get to know the culture first hand.
We've done quite a lot of couchsurfing on our past trips including a 20 day Roadtrip on the US Westcoast and we are loving it so far. For us there is no better way to explore a new place then to do it as or with a local and CS provides exactly that oportunity to do so.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
We both really love to travel, experience different cultures and get to know people from all over the world with all kinds of different cultural backgrounds.
Because we have been Au pairs and lived with hostfamilies for so long we know what it is like to experience a different culture first hand and how “living with the locals” makes a huge difference in how you experience a place that is new to you.
So we see couchsurfing as an opportunity to get to know and experience the places we go to for real and not just from the “touristy” site, while being able to make friends with people from all over the world.
Interests
Our biggest passion is to travel. We do it as much as we can, as far as we can.
Especially on our travels, but even in our local areas we just love to explore and are open to all kinds of new activities and experiences. If it’s just trying some new food or doing something more ‘crazy’ like skydiving, ziplining or jetski riding.
We love to be outside, either hanging out in big cities or somewhere in the nature. We like hiking, hanging out at the beach, stroll along big city streets or do whatever else just comes to our minds.
In general we are really interested in different cultures and are always happy to get to know new, nice and open-minded people to share our stories and make new memories with.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The probably most amazing thing we’ve done in our lifes so far was to leave our homecountry at the age of 18, right after graduating high school.
It took a lot of courage to start a new life abroad all by ourselves apart and far away from family, friends and familiar places and it was definetly not always easy, but it was also the best decision we have ever made and so worth it after all.
The past two years made us grow and develop into totally different people. We learned things we wouldn’t have learned in 10 years back home.
What I Can Share with Hosts
We can share all kinds of things about our culture and life in our home country Germany just as well as all the things we learned living here so far.
We are definitely open and looking forward to sharing great stories of our adventures with the hosts we’ll meet, stories of being totally lost in the middle of nowhere or being stuck in Miami after a wonderful vacation on the Bahamas due to last years blizzard that hit all over the east coast and caused a complete shutdown of our final destination airport. We have hilarious stories to tell, just as well as the more serious ones, we can tell you how it feels like to leave your home country at a young age and how we managed to adapt to a completely different lifystyle and we just can’t wait to hear your stories and what you’ve experienced especially through couch surfing so far.
