About Me

*** PLEASE READ MY WHOLE PROFILE BEFORE SENDING REQUESTS! THANK YOU!***

CURRENT MISSION

Travel into the direction of my fears.

ABOUT ME

Psychology student from Cologne, currently living in Canterbury, UK. Have hosted for a couple of years now and started surfing a bit more and what can I say - I love it. Somewhere in between getting my shit together and Ah fuck it, life is short, I'll just do whatever.

PHILOSOPHY

- I'm a feminist
- I'm a sceptic and an atheist. This life and world with all of its wonderful possibilities is, for all we know, the closest to heaven we will ever get. And homeopathy doesn't work.
- I am vegan and I love discovering and cooking new veggie food
- I try to live sustainably meaning I like foodsharing and I shop in food rescuing stores
- I believe it is crucial to treat people with kindness and respect and I believe that people are generally capable of that
- I believe we are too often letting our fears, norms and habits hold us back. A bit more courage would empower us all to live extraordinary and exciting lives.
- I believe it is crucial to stay open minded and curious
- I also believe in the whole carpe diem shit, although carpe diem can also mean eat a shit load of ice cream and watch 20 episodes of my favourite series.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I used to host people in my shared flat in Cologne and travel as much as I can. Not hosting at the moment due to ridiculously busy schedule, but interested in meeting up and giving local advice. (In a platonic way, no dating messages please) Sometimes I take part in local activities (but Canterbury doesn't have many, which I am hoping to change!).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted some great people and came to know other couchsurfers in my City, some of them are now really good friends. Discovering surfing on other peoples couches changed my way of travelling completely and made it more fun, interesting and authentic. It gets addictive to meet new people this way.

Interests

I love music. I love listening to it, going to concerts and clubs and making music on my own. I play the piano and the guitar (though both only mediocrely) and sing. I frequently meet with some friends to jam and I used to be singer in a rock band. Cologne is an amazing city for concerts, there are plenty of great locations.

I'm a huge fan of good books and movies and carry a book wherever I go. I love to go to bars, (alternative) clubs and Irish Pubs or just hang outside. I love beer and wine and Gin and Tonic.

And, of course, I love travelling and meeting people from all over the world.
I'm interested in philosophy and a huge fan of science and poetry.

I like outdoor acitvities like hiking and riding my bike and outdoor sports. I love just wandering around new places for hours. I am especially interested in discovering the street art in every new place I go to and also in places I've been to before as it always changes. Street art and the stories behind pieces fascinates me and I love how, the more you see and learn about it the more often you recognise artists or styles in new places. I recently got into photography which will likely become my new hobby. Anyone interested in showing me a few tricks??

Oh. And food. Lots of food. And cooking. And shopping for fresh ingredients on the market. <3

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Into The Wild, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction (or anything from Tarrantino), The Dark Knight, Schindlers List, Inception, Requiem for a Dream, ...

Music:Wow, that's much. Here's an excerpt: Florence & the Machine, Radiohead, Woodkid, Modest Mouse, Boy, The National, Phoenix, Hundreds, Bob Dylan, Foals, Pink Floyd, Leonard Cohen, Arcade Fire, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Iron & Wine, Sufjan Stevens, London Grammar, City and Colour, Metronomy
Love 60s blues and lately got into retro 70s funk and dicso and always up for 80s classics :D

Books: mostly non-fiction, but like good thrillers as well. Too many to mention here, but happy to talk about books! Safe to say I don't have (or make) as much time for reading as I should.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I FOUND VEGAN BEN AND JERRY'S AT A LOCAL TESCO'S!!!

Teach, Learn, Share

I make an awesome lasagna and I'm willing to share the recipe ;) Edit: After becoming vegetarian I discovered that vegetarian moussaka is even better than vegetarian lasagna. Still willing to share the recipe though ;) Edit: Vegan now. I make an awesome vegan Shepherd's Pie :D

I know lots of Places in Cologne to have fun, party or hang out and I know which places are overrated and should be avoided. Edit: I don't live in Cologne anymore, but Canterbury has some (though significantly fewer) cool places as well. I know my way around London as well.

I'm trained in conversational therapy and know a lot of things about relaxation and mindfulness.

I can discuss religion, philosphy and politics for hours, so if that's your thing you'll have long talked-through nights with lots of wine and beer with me :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I like to cook for and with my hosts (though you'd have to be open to vegan food). I can teach some German and I can talk about my research and psychology and philosophy in general. I would say that I am very friendly and open and go with the flow, so I am happy to adapt and enjoy however couchsurfing experiences turn out. Past hosts have stressed how helpful and respectful I was, which is very important to me. I personally never host people who are simply looking for a free place to crash and I also don't want to be that kind of couchsurfer. I could easily stay at a hostel or AirBnB if I wanted cheap accommodation. Couchsurfing forces people to connect on a more intimate level immediately than they normally would. I find that fascinating and it has helped me overcome a great deal of social anxiety.
