About Me

Helllooooo! I'm Alisha. 🌟😄✨

I reckon: I'm bubbly, curious, positive, sensitive, silly. Only God can prank me....

I'm good at responding to other people's needs and the vibe around me, but I can also curate a mood! 💨

I love sinking my teeth into new projects and learning new skills.🚀

I’m fully vaccinated with multiple boosters.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am extroverted, and I love to be around people who care about people.

I also like to learn about local culture from the locals themselves!

I want to hear from ☞☞☞ you what ☞☞☞ you think is important about your city, not just what the guidebooks say! ❤️‍🔥

Also... the locals know where to eat!!! 🍜🍲🍤

That being said, I'm very resourceful and happy to do my own thing if you're busy. No need to fuss over me!

Interests

I make artwork, 🎨 primarily sculptures with industrial materials, so I am handy and resourceful. 🛠️

You can check out my creations and learn more about my art on my website www.https://www.alishaabate.com/ and my Instagram https://www.instagram.com/alishaabateart/ 📸

Professionally, I have a diverse background ranging from managing art galleries to working with different communities and social policy. 🏛️ You can learn more about some of my work interests on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/alisha-abate/ 💼

I love going to art galleries, live music, staying active, being in nature🏞️ and playing on several sports teams in my spare time,🏀🏉 going to the gym, lounging in the sun, hiking, and surfing. 🌊

I enjoy being social, whether having a relaxed dinner, drinking with a friend, partying, meeting new people, and making good mates. 💞

Music, Movies, and Books

🎵I love seeing live music; many friends play in bands and DJs in Melbourne. I like a wide variety of music - local Melbourne sounds called 'jangle pop' like my mates Skink Tank, Ocean Party or local hip hop like Kaiit or my mate Ke'Ahn!

🎧I will truly listen to anything - I like hearing music from different cultures and different trends

📚 I'm a bit of a nerd and enjoy reading lots of non-fiction, including journal articles about art, architecture, and various other topics I've print-screened and uploaded in my pictures (If you're interested).

🎬 I like to watch movies and TV shows to decompress, usually something trashy and lighthearted or well-rated on the letterboxed app

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I had a breakup a while ago, so I turned the experience into a stand-up comedy routine and performed it!
🎤😅
It's good to do that ey?
up shit creek without a paddle.
but,
I do like jokes.

"good,"
- a boy I know

"the bar was really low but you were still funny,"
- a girl I know.

"yeah, naaah, good."
- a non-binary person I know.

This is the kind of commentary I have been receiving on my comedy.
😂 🤣
Yeah, so obviously, I want to give it another go.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach, learn, share—good politics. Good politics is important, but applying it interpersonally and locally matters most in building strong communities.

Teach:
💻 How to use AI, organise your life with Google Calendar
🖼️ Knowledge and insights about contemporary arts and architecture
🔥 Artistic skills, particularly in sculpture with industrial materials, mig-welding, mould-making
🕸 Drawing movement, drawing negative space. 🌀🌀Finding your own style 🌀🌀
🍳 Cooking traditional recipes, especially those learned from my Nonna

When teaching is done well, it is about more than just imparting knowledge. It’s about empowering others, fostering growth, and creating opportunities for everyone to develop their skills, passions and connections.

This is especially important for those who may not have had the same opportunity for formalised education. I value diverse forms of knowledge, especially those outside the educational institution.
-------------------------------------------------------

Learn:
🌋Local history, particularly Industrial History, First Nations, and Queer Histories
🛕Important Archiecture
🔮 Must visit community centres and community-run events
🌀Contemporary art galleries (especially artist-run spaces) and events
🍿🍣🍱 The best local locations to eat!!
🌍Good local spots and hidden gems of the places I visit
🥾 Hiking and camping locations
🌱 Must-see nature spots 🍃🌸

Learning is a constant for me. I'm a nerd at heart. I am forever curious, exploring new ideas and continuously expanding my perspective. Through learning, we grow as individuals and collectively as a community.
-------------------------------------------------------

Share:
🌄 Enthusiasm for nature and outdoor activities
📖 Reading separately - together, local experiences and cultural exchanges.
😊 A positive, fun, and engaging vibe.
🌈 Art projects and collaborative creative endeavours.
🍽️ Meals and the pleasure of cooking together.

Sharing can involve multiple things, such as experiences, skills, knowledge, and time, and it requires different amounts of time to feel comfortable giving and receiving.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would love to give you space and do my own thing to relax a bit, or see the local sights!

Keeping you company with good chat, funny, light-hearted banter, or deep conversations would also be cool.

I am happy to chip in as you see fit too :)
