About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to fill up my passport before it expires in 2015!

ABOUT ME

I'm a thrill seeker looking for my next big international adventure. I love to have fun with my friends, go to the beach, dance, and be a little crazy some times.

Interests

I loooove to travel. I think that immersing myself in other cultures is one of the most rewarding, educational, and not to mention incredible experiences I've ever had. At home, I am really interested in politics and social movements/social justice. I'm a California girl so I crave being near the beach, and love the infinite feeling of swimming in the ocean. I also love to hike, ride my bike, read, listen to new music, dance like crazy, and try new things.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's hard for me to pinpoint the moment that I realized I had fallen completely in love with my home abroad (University of Ghana, in Accra), but I will say that falling in love with another country was like no other love I have ever experienced. Realizing that I could wake up every morning and feel so completely at home and happy to be in such a foreign place was not the incredible feat to overcome like I had imagined it might be. My friends and I soon were laughing at the nights when we would cleanse ourselves with our flashlight-lit bucket showers, or toast our twelfth meal in a row of the same dish (chicken and rice) with our warm beers in the outside, dimly lit market next to our dorm. The homesickness I feel for Ghana is unlike any I ever felt for my hometown while being away at college. My semester in Ghana has left my eyes permanently glued open to the beauty and wonder of the rest of the world (especially the less explored corners) and has left me with a travel bug that I have yet to shake. It has changed the way that I view traveling, no longer as simply a short trip to go and see the "highlights" of a country or a city, but to really spend time getting the know the culture and the people, and truly putting yourself outside of your comfort zone. Because that's where all the fun begins.

Teach, Learn, Share
