About Me

I'm married with lots of cats! Grew up in Girl Guides and later joined Scouts Canada, so have done lots of camping. Travelled mostly in Europe, but have also been to the Caribbean and also all over Ontario, some of Quebec, Vancouver and Victoria BC, and have been the St. John's Newfoundland three times.

My husband Shin and I are both big tech nerds who enjoy movies, theatre, music, museums, exploring new places, liberal politics, volunteerism, and meeting new people.

We are both non-smokers, and I have metastatic breast cancer which is currently stable. We are trying to make the most of the time that I am still relatively healthy and able to travel. I am very open about having cancer, so it's OK to ask me questions about it if you want to.

We are both night owls, and tend to stay up late and sleep late in the day. I also have narcolepsy, so I tend to need to nap as well, and I mention this because I don't want anyone thinking I'm lazy or antisocial if I seem to sleep a lot and ad odd times. I can sleep through noise though, so if I need to nap I don't expect people around me to stop whatever they're doing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I signed up years ago to check it out after my friend Dan recommended it. So far I haven't really used the site, but I decided to check it out as there is an upcoming conference for young adult cancer survivors coming up in Winnipeg (Spring 2020) and I thought I'd look around to see if maybe Shin and I could find a place to stay there for a few days so we can see the city after the conference.

As for people visiting our neck of the woods, we would be happy to meet up with visitors for a meal or to show them around, but we have no room to host anyone in our home. Feel free to say hello if you're going to be in the area!

Music, Movies, and Books

I have diverse taste in music, from 80s pop and rock and 90s R&B to classical and folk music.

My favourite author is Kurt Vonnegut Jr., and my favourite book is Lamb by Christopher Moore.

I love foreign films, drama, sci-fi, horror, comedy, action, historical pieces, documentaries... I have a wide variety of interests.

Probably 80% of my YouTube viewing is videos with Simon Whistler, as each of his channels is educational and entertaining!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have a million stories of things I've done and places I've been, so it's hard to choose. I helped start a youth recreation centre in my hometown when I was a teenager. I've travelled with a choir and sung in some of the great cathedrals of Europe. I have made lots of friends via the cancer community, and when I am in hospital and encounter someone struggling, I reach out and offer support just like other patients did for me.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to learn new things, so I'm constantly pursuing that by talking with new people, reading interesting articles, and putting myself in unfamiliar places to have new experiences.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Lots of humour! Really, almost anything can be funny in the right light. Open, non-judgmental conversation is also a big part of my life.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, England, France, Germany, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, Spain, United States
