About Me

Hello friends!
My name is Alix, I come from the town of Chamonix in the French Alps and I currently reside in Reykjavík, Iceland, where I am finishing my master's degree in Environment and Natural Resources.
The first impression you're likely to have of me is that of a reserved person, and you're probably right! I am calm and do not like to be in other people's ways, but don't worry, you'll slowly notice that I'm also very curious and outgoing. I'm always up to discovering new places, new people, and getting out of the beaten paths! I try to remind myself that I should take advantage of every occasion I have to do something new for the occasion might only present itself once and I strongly believe things happen to us for a reason: making us grow. Talking about growing, I have a serious hobby of collecting plants and I am planning to change the appartement into a jungle..please don't tell my roommates.

But let's rewind a little:
Four years ago, I moved to Columbus, Ohio through an exchange program with my home university. After an exciting year full of discoveries, life long friendships, and travels, I came back to the French Alps where I started working as a Production Assistant/runner in the film industry. Working in this industry was such a rich experience! Yet, although I loved this job, pursuing my education remained a priority. As long as I can remember, the environmental cause has been dear to my heart and pursuing it in a more concrete way became obvious to me. I was lucky to find the perfect master's degree in Iceland that could allow me to study this field while traveling, practicing different languages, and meeting even more people from all over the world! As my master's degree is coming to an end, my plans are to stick around Iceland for some more time to focus on the language and, eventually, find a job in my field. But, who knows? anything can happen!

What is your story? I’d love to hear it!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first heard about CS in 2014 when I created my account. I used it for the first time May 2016 in Flagstaff, AZ and I loved it! I think that staying with locals when travelling is just the perfect way to get the most genuine and rich experience of a place and its people. It's also a wonderful way to bring strangers from all other the world together to share stories and meals and create beautiful friendships :)

Interests

Anything related to the outdoors: hiking, skiing, climbing,...getting lost on purpose.

Art: watching it, listening to it, feeling it, and sometimes creating it
