About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be the best I can be.. and to get my TBR piles down

ABOUT ME

Though I just registered my name on here I live with my partner Erik who is 26.
I am originally from Greymouth, the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. I moved up to Auckland in June 2008 for a change.

At the moment I am working as a travel consultant for InterCity which I really enjoy.

I am a total bookworm and an active member of BookCrossing. I also love music.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to be as friendly as I can be.. I feel fortunate that I have wonderful family and friends and that I have met some amazing people so far on my journey through life.

Since moving up here away from my family I have changed quite a bit and I feel it has been for the better. Am more outgoing and open than I was back in Greymouth.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Just a newbie currently but am looking forward to hosting some people, surfing some couches and meeting lots of interesting people!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have have hosted twice now which has been really awesome.

First hosted the awesome Anna from Poland for two nights.. I was blown away by where she'd been and how long she'd been travelling for. We wandered around the city, walked up Mt Eden, played Wii Sport and did a bit of opshopping.
I also attended my first CS meetup with Anna and had a great time. Anyone who is able to make it to one of the weekly meetups I encourage you to go - great people, good times and the chicken pizza is pure win!

Then just this past weekend (early June) we hosted the Matts (two guys called Matt) from San Antonio, Texas. These American guys were great to talk to, very informative about travel & a whole range of stuff and I passed a couple of books on to them to read during their long upcoming flights. Erik played Mario Kart against them.

Speaking of books I have made myself the Auckland CouchSurfing one-person Book-Mobile (on foot), taking a selection of books along to meetups and passing books on to CouchSurfers... if you are attending the Auckland meetups flick me a message if there is any particular type/genre of books you would like to read.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I especially enjoy comedies, animated movies and the odd drama/action flick.
Music: Will listen to most stuff with a particular preference for rock, punk, ska and other related genres.
Books: I will try most genres of books but my favourite things to read are travel books, books about animals (particularly cats), music, GLBTQ fiction and non-fiction, biographies... I'm starting to get into fantasy a bit. I like reading a lot of young adult/teen fiction and kids books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In April 2009 I went on a road trip with some friends from Picton to Christchurch, was a great experience which I will never forget and have grown closer to those friends and also have made new ones from the trip also.

Erik and I did the Sky Jump in the last Sunday of May, my first jump and Erik's third.. was amazing, fun, a bit scary and a total adrenaline rush. Think I'd like to do a bungy jump next!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share books and talk about some of my favourites.. as I'm a BookCrosser I have a rather large supply of books that I can give away.
Can teach how I cook some of my fave foods.. likewise I'd love to learn how to cook some of yours.
Would love to also learn some crafts, maybe some words from another language and what ever else looks interesting.. tell me about different countries.

Erik can help/teach any IT related stuff. He also designs computer games and dabbles in web design (check out http://www.earok.net for some of his games - they are all free) so can probably teach and share his skills there if any CSer is interested.
