About Me

Hi there, I'm Allegra! I'm very cordial, adventurous, courteous and responsible, and as a solo traveler would love to find a friendly, safe couch to surf during my travels. I am currently an American (or, I suppose, have always been an American) studying Biomechanics and Human Biology in Southern California and I am originally from Montana (think: cowboys and Yellowstone). Even though I am young, I am well-traveled and I get along with just about every kind of person. I would be honored to stay in your home.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As a solo traveler/student, Couchsurfing is a great way to see the world even on a budget. I love suggestions of what to see and where to go from the people who know places best—locals! I am hoping to take in as much of the world as I possibly can before my career path takes off in a less travel-inclined direction. I am also planning to someday open up my couch to fellow surfers, but until I am out of school I can't wait to meet those I will encounter on my adventures as a surfer myself.

Interests

Hiking, backpacking, Alpacka rafting, photography, wanderlust-fulfilling, science, philosophy, coffee, nordic skiing, scuba diving, history, biotechnology, reddit, music composition, that feeling you get when you sit down to a great meal after walking a new city all day, really cheesy sci-fi movies from the early 80s, accents, the wonders of how small our world can be (like meeting a group of Tasmanians above the Arctic Circle in Alaska who had been to a whitewater rafting convention in your small town in Montana just a week earlier, how bizarre!) and meeting those people that make you physically pause and say, "wow, I never really thought of it that way".

Music, Movies, and Books

Music—Always looking to add to the collection and I would love to hear your favorites! Some of mine include Allen Stone, The Beatles, The Shins, Alt-J, Modest Mouse, Flogging Molly, India.Arie, Flume, Radiohead, Motion City Soundtrack, The Strokes, Gramatik, The Blue Scholars, Kygo, Louis Armstrong, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver, you name it and I'll listen.

Some of my favorite books include Cat's Cradle (anything by Vonnegut, really), Dune, Catch 22, A Brief History of Time (Stephen Hawking is surprisingly hilarious), Kerouac and anything else I can get my hands on when I actually get the time to read.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I am incredibly lucky—there are too many things to choose from. I would love to share my stories of growing up in Montana, living in Thailand and Laos, being charged by kodiak grizzlies in Alaska, rappelling from places far too high up, scuba diving at night through some of the most incredible bioluminescence I have ever seen, life in Hollywood as someone who lives and breathes the mountains (let me tell you, it's quite the trip), cross-country road trips in a 35-year-old pickup truck, my opinions of living in America, what it's like to summit peaks, how terrifying it is to perform dental procedures at the age of 20, why I'm moving to Africa in the Spring, and how I still have barely even scratched the surface of all I want to do in my life. I would love for you to share your stories—triumphs, tribulations—and help a young person gain the most valuable thing there is in this world... perspective!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to learn and am always open to listen. I enjoy talking about science, topography, the outdoors, sports that I know far too little about (if I meet someone who can teach me the rules of cricket I would be forever grateful), food, ideas, current events, culture, your pets, and the real way to spell words like colour and theatre (am I doing it right?). I have endless suggestions for hiking and outdoors activities in the United States and would love to share photos and GPS coordinates. I can teach you organic chemistry, how to play the cello, how to dig a snow cave when it's too windy to set up a tent in the middle of the wilderness—but I would also love to learn something from you, as anyone willing to open their home to accommodate strangers and learn from them is certainly someone whose life story I would love to hear.

**All of this being said, I will be spending a majority of my time exploring the city on my own, and do not ask for anything more than a safe space and a smile from any potential host.**

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am clean, respectful, friendly, conscientious and would love to help cook if you're willing to share a recipe!
I will be doing most of my traveling solo, especially on my Amsterdam adventure as I move to Cape Town, South Africa for 2015, and as such I am looking to find someone with whom I would feel safe staying. I am easy going and very clean, but hope that anyone kind enough to host will also feel comfortable with me as a guest in their home.
