Music, Movies, and Books

I like music, but it's hard to say what kind. I play the tuba and the banjo, and I've been in community bands and a klezmer-bluegrass band.

I don't watch many movies, to be honest. I've been working my way through the Star Trek movies lately.

I have a kind of investment in a northern Canadian used bookstore; it's a sign of how much I love reading. Some old and new favourites include Jane Austen, Shani Mootoo, Neal Stephenson, Somerset Maugham, Herman Hesse, Naomi Levy. One of my recent loves is an obscure novel called "The Last Canadian," written by the publisher of a newspaper in Ontario.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hard to say.

Teach, Learn, Share

My family is from Barbados, and thus I make a nice Barbados-style curry. During my travels, I've also learned how to make tamales in estilo Michoacan, green pozole, Oaxacan-style black beans, Argentine empanadas, palak paneer. I make vegetarian or meaty food.

I'm a huge aviation nerd. I am a glider pilot, and I have started working on my power pilot's license, as well.

I also just like sharing stories and listening. I am a journalist, after all.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share that which I have mentioned. I like to cook. I can take pictures and write stories.

That said, I'm also not afraid to get my hands dirty. I've been a dumpster diver, a house builder, a photographer at a bull auction. I've helped sell hot dogs for local charity groups, painted murals in small towns, washed dishes for evacuees as a fire threatened a nearby community. I'm a bit of a jack-of-all-trades.
