About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Skiing and biking as much as possible before going back to school for a master's degree.

ABOUT ME

I have a pretty random life and some people would describe me as impulsive. Fair enough, I did accidentally move to Turkey. I've been lucky enough to travel a lot in the past few years, and hopefully I'll be able to continue that. I'm big on outdoorsy stuff, I love skiing in the winter and mountain biking in the summer. I spend most of my free time either skiing, biking, or talking/thinking about skiing and bikes; it's kind of taken over my life in the most awesome way :)

I studied photojournalism at uni, and while I've decided that I'm not going to pursue a career in photojournalism, I'll always love taking photos. Don't go sightseeing with me unless you can stand waiting for hours while I take hundreds and hundreds of photos. I'm also a complete dork when it comes to cameras and camera equipment so unless you're also very interested in it I'd avoid bringing up the subject since I'd probably make you really bored.

I'm now back at university majoring in International Studies with a minor in Economics. I actually really love the program and it's been a real pleasure to study something that I'm so interested in. It's always a good sign when the required readings for your courses are books that you'd probably just pick up to read for fun otherwise.

I'm a very social person and incredibly easygoing. I find it pretty easy to find good qualities about everyone I meet. People in general fascinate me and I love hearing their stories.

PHILOSOPHY

"life is far too important a thing to ever talk seriously about."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My first taste of couchsurfing was while I was travelling throughout the middle east and I had nothing but good experiences. Some of my best memories of that trip are with people I met through couchsurfing, which for me was the whole point of trying it. I'm settled down in vancouver now for the next few years, and I'm pretty excited to start experiencing the other side of the coin and host some awesome people.

Interests

I'm a curious person and I tend to find something interesting in every and any subject. I guess these things would be more like "hobbies."

Outdoorsy sport type stuff. I've been skiing since I was three years old, there's nothing that gives me the same rush, thrill, sense of peace, satisfaction, and sheer happiness all at the same time. I love being outdoors, out in the middle of nowhere, preferably with my camera in hand so I can wander off aimlessly in search of photos.

I love travelling and have made it a priority for the past few years. I'm not one to tick sights off of a list and generally just go where my mood takes me, again, always with my camera in hand. I'm always willing to try anything new, be it bouncing down a grassy hill in a giant hamster ball or witnessing a religious ceremony.

On my last big trip I did Mongol Rally with two friends. We travelled through 18 countries and drove a Fiat Stilo from Finland to Mongolia. It was by far the most insane, adventurous, exciting, fun, and life changing trip I've ever been on. It's impossible to imagine what driving across 1/3 of the earth is like until you've done it, and it's changed the way I look at traveling. There's no way I could possibly describe a trip like that in a space this small, but I'd be more than happy to share the hilarious and ridiculous stories from those 7 weeks.
