About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To live my life to the full and enrich other peoples.
ABOUT ME
Oh no... back to normality!
I am back in the UK and have a job - will update profile asap.
I had spent numerous years trying to fit travel in with my working life but 2005 found me at work for less than half a year, so in 2006 I quit.. no great surprise to my boss!
Having been on the road since then, starting in Phi Phi in 2005 after the Tsunami and finishing in Africa, I'm now back at work for a while. When I travel I want to fully experience the destinations we visit, understand the culture, eat the food and meet people as we travel... after all it's the people you meet along the way that make the journey memorable.
PHILOSOPHY
Everyone should strive to achieve a degree of personal fulfilment and improvement, however this should never be achieved at the detriment of someone else.
I suppose my motto would be 'Do unto others as you would wish them to do unto you'.
I also cherish my life. As such life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, a smile on your face screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
It's all about the people. I could not possibly fit all the positive experiences I've had in such a small box. It's comforting to be constantly reminded that the planet is richly populated with people from all walks of life who are open to new experiences and not tainted with the cynicism that everyday life can sometimes promote.
Interests
I love meeting new people and exchanging ideas, ideals and experiences. I also love to be outdoors, travel (obvioulsy) am a qualified scuba diver and also like to engage in anything a little extreme e.g. a 220m bungee down the face of a Verzasca Dam Switzerland... there's a small adrenalin junkie inside me always waiting to get out!. I was training to be a pilot in the UK before I left to travel (something that I intend to finish off when I settle down again) I would also like to do my AFF soon so that I can skydive solo. Other than that anything that involves travelling, meeting new people and new experiences.
Music, Movies, and Books
I am pretty poor with films as I often fall asleep during them, I'll have a think and update my profile another time. Also, spending so much time on the road means there is always something more interesting to do on a day to day basis... I have at least 2 years of 'new releases' to catch up on.
I have an eclectic 40Gb collection of music that I travel with from classical through jazz, pop, funk, blues, rap, D&B, techno and dance. (I love music)
I am presently reading Rama Revealed by Arthur C. Clarke, The Shakespear Secret by Carrell having made it through A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson and an attempt at A Brief History of Time by S. Hawking. As you can tell I will pretty much read just about anything I can get my hands on.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I have done so many things in the past few years it is hard to select them to fit in here... but to name a few these would include participating as a volunteer on Kho Phi Phi after the Tsunami, watching the sunrise and set over the Great Wall of China, diving with Mantas, going for a swim in Lake Baikal (It was indeed cold!) and visitiing the tiger temple in Thailand.
Teach, Learn, Share
Life is all about sharing experience, sharing the ‘wealth’ of knowlegde. Whether that be in the form of exchanging knowledge gained from education, experience of age and travel or the diversity of character gained from life.
