Overview
About Me
I am a friendly introvert who loves to make things with my hands, have thought provoking and/or silly conversations, get lost in a story or a new place, and spend time with my dog.
One of my favourite things to do is to travel (usually solo) - it makes me feel alive and empowered and most like myself. I am always looking for new adventures in new places, and I am also working on learning to adopt that same open mindset at home in my day to day life. It's a perspective shift.
I like to spend my summers canoeing through the rivers and lakes of Ontario. A golden rule of camping is to leave the campsite looking as if you were never there. In once sense, that principle guides my travels: I want to travel as sustainably and environmentally conscious as possible. On the other hand, I want to leave every community, village, town, city, etc. better than when I arrived, if possible, by sharing my own knowledge and developing sustainable solutions to local issues in a collaborative and empowering way.
Aside from Toronto, I am so fortunate to have lived, studied, and worked in Montreal, Auckland New Zealand, London UK, and Delhi India, and to have traveled independently around South America and Europe for extended periods of time.

Music, Movies, and Books
Right now I am reading The Unbearable Lightness of Being.
The last movie I watched is The Dawn Wall.
I love music but am strangely going through a bit of a lull right now! Any recommendations are welcome :) I love folk, pop, alternative jazz,... and am pretty open to most genres.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
When I was working in India I spent a day at a remote school for girls who were the first generation students in their families, many of whom had never left their villages. They welcomed me with a song about all the amazing things girls are capable of doing. It was so inspiring I was holding back tears. I wrote about it here, if you're interested in reading more! https://www.akfc.ca/our-work/dispatch-field-want-grow/
