CURRENT MISSION
I'm on a top priority mission to get connected with the world!!!
ABOUT ME
I'm a textbook nerd and enjoy reading and discussing critical-cultural, feminist, and critical race theories, although I have a good time discussing almost anything if I'm with passionate, opinionated, compassionate, funny, easy-going people. Oh, and empirical science has proven that I am funny. Well maybe not, but I LOVE to laugh and I make a conscious effort to be happy, and I find the more I count my blessings the less of an effort it is :)
PHILOSOPHY
As mentioned before, I choose to be happy. My roommates have demanded that I shove the sunshine back up my ass on more than one occasion. Sometimes happy people are discarded as flippant, out-of-touch, or overly idealist, but as for me, I've got my share of weight on my shoulders and I simply choose to not let me hold me down as long as that's a choice I can make; we all know sometimes happiness ISN'T a choice, so I may as well take that path when it is.

Musica, film e libri
Movies, music, books -- those creative mirrors and directors of culture that in turn make the world smaller, bigger, crazier, easier, and sometimes just that much more fun :) In the Horribly Depressing Horror Movie Category, I've got to nominate writer Stephen King/director Frank Darabont's "The Mist". I love such a wide variety of music (and I mean that), but when I get hooked on a particular song or artist, I am HOOKED (My roommates have been listening to Damien Rice's "9 Crimes" album for the last, oh, two to three months on a daily basis...no matter how AMAZING the album is, you've got to admit that they are mighty good sports. That, and I know when to don the headphones and avoid getting thrown over the balcony).
BOOKS...If I could make a living just reading, I would be a Federal Reading Agent (it's got to have a cool title no matter what. While I can't give a hierarchical top ten because there's just no logical way to compare the intrigue of reading Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights" with the exhilerating thrill of devouring Inga Muscio's female-affirming book, "Cunt" (which I can't possibly describe adequately except to say that ladies, there is more to celebrate about us than a lot of the shit dominant culture puts out there).
Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto
My entire life amazes me. Not because I'm a narcissistic introvert who stares at my own bellybutton in complete awe, but life is amazing. Out of the few fantastic things I have experienced in my 22 years of living -- the family cruise to Mexico, the conferences in Hawaii and New York, graduating with my BA in Women's Studies -- I'd have to say the thing that amazes me most is that I have lived for the past year in a two-bedroom apartment in an overpriced section of Long Beach, CA with six random college-aged women...and have LOVED every minute of it. When people come together like that in my life and have such a positive impact that I could never have foreseen, well, it's the detox my spirit needs to remember how beautiful living is.
Insegna, impara, condividi
Alright fellow learners, my lesson of the year for myself is: It's not my responsibility to fret about the comfort of people who antagonistically make me uncomfortable. I like people to be happy, and I'll admit, I've compromised some dignity in the past to make sure everyone is comfortable. Now my mantra is, if someone makes me uncomfortable by being sexist, heterosexist, racist, xenophobic, or just by too closely resembling an ass through his/her actions, I will not spare them the discomfort of listening to me speak up. Sometimes it's difficult to speak up, but it's better for everyone to be uncomfortable grappling with honoring our collective humanity than for a few of us to be uncomfortable with who we are.
