About Me

I'm ridiculously curious, with a million different hobbies and interests including backpacking, bellydance, yoga, metalsmithing, and writing. I consider myself very lucky indeed that I'm paid to ask questions and then search out the answers. I'm originally from the U.S. and have been in Canada just six months, but already love it - even in winter.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm very interested in how we re-make the economy in ways that are aligned with deeper values. My sister, who's been a couchsurfer for a long time, suggested I try it, so here I am.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have widely varied musical tastes. For awhile I was in a Music Salon where everyone brought something thoroughly unique to share. Every freaking song was amazing. I have a deep fondness for heartfelt singer songwriters like Leonard Cohen, Laura Veirs, Indigo Girls, Dolly Parton. I also love Afro-funk, classical, and old school punk.

I don't watch a lot of movies - still haunted by The Decalogue, I Claudius, 7 Up, most things by Almodovar, and The Sweet Hereafter. I love a good Pixar (like just about everyone).

I read a lot and my favorites rotate regularly. I've just finished Women Talking and Children of Blood and Bone and loved both of them in completely different ways.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I took a research trip to Madagascar for two months, following backward the supply chain of raw silk products for a social enterprise in the states. It took me all across the country, into the homes of weavers, cocoon buyers, and farmers whose sole source of cash came from the cocoon trade. I learned so much and was forever changed by my experiences there.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a skilled, trained meditation teacher, so if you're having trouble or just want to refine your technique, I'm happy to help. I'm also an applied researcher and evaluator with a consulting practice around organizational learning and change - so happy to help in those areas. I'm a great cook and know a lot about cooking with food restrictions.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'd be happy to cook, bring some Canadian treats, and generally be easy-going and a fun guest.
