Music, Movies, and Books

okay, so i've always had a hard time picking favorite things. how do you know that something is just hands down your favorite? is it instinctual? do you weigh pros and cons? is it just something you make up on the spot? (i used to tell people my favorite color was orange even though i don't particularly like orange. to me, it is just a strange question.)

that being said, i realize that this sort of thing helps people get some insight into our personalities. so, i'll just name a couple things that i really like. no promise about them being favorites, and i'm sure that next time i edit this section it will change.

music: right now i could listen to Nina Simone, "ain't got no (I got life)" a million times in a row. according to my ipod, i also listen to Taj Mahal/Toumani Diabate, Kulanjan a ton, and john prine (self-titled album, but particularly Spanish Pipedream. books...i will always love mark twain, partly because he is a genius and partly because i feel the need to defend my missouri roots. i have most recently read Murakami and Gabriel Garcia Marquez and am in love with both. okay, i think that will do it. I'm not going to broach the topic of movies. hope that was insightful.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

i was sailing off the coast of sicily on a starry night and saw dolphins lit up by phosphorescence playing in the wake of the boat. i really like this world.
